Another one out of the ballpark

Another great episode. This one was really funny. Martina (Carrie Preston) and Mike (Patrick Warburton) want to spend time with people in their own age group. They go through a list of all the couples they know and find that in each couple, there is one person in that couple that they really do not like. They finally think of a couple that they believe they can actually enjoy being around only to find out that they have just recently split up. This leads them to try and fix up the guy with a co-worker from where Mike works. What transpires from there is so funny. Seeing the two of them trying to go with the flow and be really cool is great.

They have a couple of side story lines. One involving Mike's dad (Stacy Keach) and step-mom (Carlease Burke). She wants to go out on a date with him but he is always coming up with reasons not to go or promising to go but never setting a specific time and day. They finally do go on a date and this leads to the other story line. Because they are going out on a Saturday, a night that is usually busy at the bar, they need to find someone to help tend bar. Stella (Mia Serafino), Shea (Miranda Cosgrove), and Ethan (Clifford McGhee) step up and agree to help out so that the two can have a much needed date night. Stella decides to help the business by inviting underage people to the bar. Shea helps by inviting cops to come to the cop bar. This brings about an awkward situation. It all ends up being fine in the end.

The one small complaint that I have about this episode was that Stella invited a bunch of underage people, via social networking, to come to the bar. The fact that her grandpa (Stacy Keach) is a retired cop and is the owner of the bar just isn't a believable story line. I realize that she is not the brightest of people, but I find it difficult to believe that she would be that stupid. This is the one thing that I was really hoping that the writers would avoid. This kind of stupidity or shallowness with any character might be funny a time or two, but a continuous diet of that sort of thing just doesn't work for me. I hope that the writers can find better ways to develop the Stella character. If they don't, it will be the one point in the show that will cause me to give lower ratings.
