Silly musical comedy with attractive musical numbers and catching songs well performed by attractive performers
ma-cortes22 August 2019
It deals with two beautiful young girls, Maria : Macarena Garcia and Susana : Anna Castillo, are two rebel teenagers who spend their time in a religious camp at the Segovian mountains . But their rebellious attitude will collide with two religious nuns from a rigid ecclesiastic order , the oldest , Gracia Olayo, and the youngest, Belen Cuesta. And an unexpected twist, God himself appearance : Richard Collins, who shows up to the ingenuous Maria. By the way, the crazy girls attempt to amuse themselves by dancing at discoteque and musical concerts. At the same time, the likeable teens try to get their religious freedom as well as God love, thanks to the surprising appearance by the singer Richard Collins as God character.

An amusing and fun film but disconcerting story with ridiculous incidents and surprising happenings. It is an acceptable movie but containing absurd events and embarrassing adventures . However, the musical acting, charming songs and enjoyable set pieces make it for the non-sense script. The disconcerting screenplay doesn't make much sense, but it has its moments here and there. Catching songs originally composed by Dolly Parton, Henry Mendez, Linda Thompson and Annie Lennox. Being wonderfully performed by Richard Collins, Macarena Garcia, Anna Castilla, Gracia Olayo and Belen Cuesta. These actors are completed by brief apparitions, almost cameos, by secondaries as Secun de la Rosa, Nuria Herrero and film producer himself : Enrique Lopez Lavigne.

It contains a colorful and evocative cinematography by Miguel Amodeo. Miguel is one of the best Spanish cameraman who has photographed notorious films and series such as : La novia, Kamikaze, Locked-up, Fermat room, Princesa de Eboli, Ministerio del Tiempo, Hispania and Money heist. Being shot on location in Alcala de Henares and San Rafael, Segovia, Castilla Leon . It packs an agreeable and emotive musical score by Leiva. The motion picture was regularly directed by the newcomers Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, they are the true authors of the novel it was based on. At the beginning they did not want to shot it , but they didn't find adequate directors, then they decided to make it. It won Asecan award to best cinematography, Miguel Amodeo, as well as the best secondary actress to Belen Cuesta. And best Spanish film nominee, directors Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi. Rating 5.5/10. Acceptable and passable.

Weird yet we were all laughing
traceytak7 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Ok so it's probably one of the weirdest films I've ever seen, God is portrayed as singing Whitney Houston songs whenever you see him and he's actually a man from Scunthorpe lol. The two girls are very attractive and the storyline is so out there that it's funny. The lyrics to one of the songs (to God) says with ' my legs wide open' which we had to check with a translator was correct, but yes it seems it was. Funny, because it's so strange.

Painfully bad
bosoxrudy22 August 2019
Two friends at summer camp have very atypical summer camp adventures. The plot doesn't make much sense, if any, and the humor never finds its way. The 1h40m run time starts to feel like torture less than a third of the way through the movie. Trust me, skip this one.

Magical, not realism
euphony-0138926 November 2020
The reviews for this film are mostly negative, complaining about the move being strange. All I can say is, have you never read a fairytale? Not everything has to make sense for it to be true. I spent most of the movie with a broad grin on my face. It's genuine, warm, and so so happy. Yes, God sings Whitney Houston songs in the movie. And you know what? It feels right. It feels completely, wholly, joyfully right.

Where do start?!
enlastorres22 October 2018
I love Spanish films, but this one, WTF. Maybe I need to see the actual musical or read the book (if there's one out there). Just when you think the movies is going right, it totally goes left to who knows where. I don't recommend it this movie at all and I will never ever see it again.

Oh Macarena!
damagelago16 February 2018
"La Llamada" is a boring, not funny Spanish religious comedy. The movie has however a really good and enjoyable cast led by the beautiful Macarena Gómez, indeed all the actors are great. The problem is the direction and editing: each scene is painfully long and what could have been a good idea for a short is tiring for a full length movie. Nevertheless I managed to get to the end based on Macarena Gómez, whose mere appearance lights the screen.

Awful

Warning: Spoilers
Couldn't even finish this horrible movie. The only reason i even pushed play was because of the amazing cast; 10 minutes later i found myself wondering why on Earth did they accepted to have their names on this thing. Roles where so obvious, there's nothing funny about the movie and that light with a man singing like he's supposed to be a... human-looking God, i don't know. I consider myself a great fan of Spanish creations but this one got too far even for me.

Good music, funny, strange and wonderful
spookeynight17 December 2022
I went into the movie knowing pretty much nothing about it and i absolutely loved it. I suppose you could say it's a bit unusual but i loved the music, singing and performances, it was overall a great experience to me. I'd recommend watching it for sure, i also recommend keeping an open mind while watching it, let yourself fully enjoy the movie. Only thing I don't like about it is that I couldn't find the music recorded for the movie anywhere to stream or buy(except for two songs, which are both on Spotify and were performed by Macarena García) so that made me sad and i feel like some character backstory was missing but otherwise it is a pretty good movie in my opinion. Though keep in mind I'm a bit of a fan for somewhat strange movie and musicals.

WORST MOVIE SO FAR
jayjaybogsli18 January 2020
Yes!!! So far, the worst movie I have watched at Netflix. The storyline was way too boring, and hello? A bitch lil camp girl who had sex on the camp site then fell in love with a nun? Nun get confused and omg, portraying "god" singing whitney houston songs? Thought movie was okay, but it makes me cringe. Really appreciate all efforts exerted but please, remember "Not to use the name of Lord our God in Vain."

Spanish comedy at it's finest
maurizio-a-carlucci-z4 February 2018
This movie is the representation of the best of the spanish comedy. Crazy women with strong personalities. Amazing ideas that will make you laugh so much. And the best is in the details. Truly a movie to be proud of and a great musical.

Indescribable
dingoberserk1 June 2021
My vocabulary is too limited to allow for a full description of this dog of a movie. I just opine that one of the worst tortures in Hell would be being forced to watch it ten times a day for all eternity. Pity imdb does not allow negative numbers.....

Slow, loud, long, not funny, suuuper boring
virgie_lablonde10 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There is an underage girl making out with a 28 years old nun?

There is a choreography twerking at God? It's soooo wrong and offensive.

The cast is awsemos, but the film is super slow, loud, long and boring. I literally watched it al 2X and it was still slow.

Find you calling?
shanazmarouf14 December 2021
It was great how Susana accepted Maria quitting the band to finally do what she loves, instead of outcasting her, and being mad at her. We can see true friendship happening, and ultimate acceptance. Also, a great way to update and make religion more appealing to the younger audience.

And it is great to show and illustrate how church is LGBTQ+ friendly.

Please watch this, and learn from it.

Best Movie Ever
jesusjorgevarelaperez9 November 2019
Best cast, best songs, best movie. It makes a lot of sense if you're Spanish, not if you're not.
