God bless Cinema Guild. They’ve picked up the three newest films from Hong Sang-soo and the first out of the gate here in the U.S. is his Berlinale winner, On the Beach at Night Alone. Starring Kim Min-hee, who won Best Actress at the aforementioned festival, it follows the meta tale (in typical Hong fashion) of an actress emotionally recovering from her affair with a married film director.
We said in full review, “On the Beach at Night Alone, a bittersweet tone poem from South Korean writer-director Hong Sang-soo, thinks many a thought about the universe and the future, mostly expressed through nature and the characters’ anxieties about growing old. It’s the 18th feature from the prolific master filmmaker, and one that ponders in the macro while still following the archetypal blueprinted micro we’ve come to expect.”
See the new trailer below ahead of a release next week.

South Korean filmmaker Hong Sangsoo works at a clip that might leave you breathless. This year alone he’s completed three pictures — all of which have hit the festival circuit — and now they’re making their way to an arthouse near you. As per usual, they’re all worth tracking down, and you’ll want to make space this season for “On The Beach At Night Alone.”
Featuring a terrific, award-winning performance by Kim Minhee, the story is loosely inspired by the director’s own affair with the actress, and the result is a film we called both “exceptional” and “exciting.” Here’s the official synopsis:
Art imitates life in this quietly devastating masterpiece from Hong Sangsoo.

More than five and a half years after it first went off the air, “Chuck” continues to amass a devoted following. And though the show received a two-hour finale at the end of its fifth season, many are still clamoring for a movie. Zachary Levi addressed his hopes for getting such a project off the ground in an Entertainment Weekly interview, saying he’d “love to do it” but is “the only person who’s affiliated with the show that’s been trying to make it happen on some level.”

Art imitates life, and Lea Michele admits her musical inspirations serve as personal ones, too.
On her new album Places, the Broadway veteran returns to her theatrical roots. And Michele, 30, says she looked to her own idols when it came time to record and write the LP, on which she showcases her powerhouse pipes.
“I’ve really embraced my sound with this record and my roots of being a theatrical performer and my influences of Barbra Streisand and Céline Dion,” says the actress, whose voice has often been compared to those divas’.

Brett Haley has a thing for older actors. A Sundance regular, his feature debut, “I’ll See You in My Dreams,” starred Blythe Danner as a widow and former singer seeking a new lease on life. The ubiquitous character actor Sam Elliott (“The Big Lebowski”) played Danner’s love interest, but hers was not the only interest he piqued. Haley quickly set his sights on writing a project for Elliott to lead, and “The Hero” is the result.
