What is home(?)
kosmasp8 July 2022
Sometimes it is hard to live your life "elsewhere". Elsewhere being not the place you were born. Some people like travelling, like being everywhere all at once (no pun intended and not trying to quote a movie title here). But others do like to be in certain places.

The movie is not just about homesickness though. It is about love - about trying to make things work. Being a couple, understanding what needs the other person needs and what has to be done, that both are happy. Well that is the thought behind it at least ... as you can imagine and as life is ... it is not that simple.

If that is enough for you, the movie will tick all the right boxes ... it is a pacing issue for some, a drama for others (no pun intended) or just life as we live it ...

Home is where the scene has a reason
unpopicakbill5 January 2024
If in a film there is a scene that has no reason, there is no scene, and in extrapolation, there is no film. This film has great potential, it has good potential, it has potential, and it ends up still holding it, but not realizing it.

The story is that of too many modern couples in the true middle class, where both are involved in the economic life, and none are involved in the family building, or at "home", irrespective where the address of that lies. But to make a film out of a good idea seems to elude the director here, the screenwriter, as well as not hitting home with the main male character, which comes across as trying too hard, and having himself missing the memo on how to deliver the drama.

All in all is not as bad as it seemed midway through, but to me it massively underdelivered to the implied value that it could have with such as good overall story.

My advice is to skip this one, unless for the above average delivery of the female character.

Separately, the fact that it was a low budget, still came across for the portrait of the business work, activity and afterwork, this though, it's a minor failure in the big picture.

Warning: Spoilers
The ending was very bad, I was happy if he had a kid together not just to see some random meeting...

Chemistry

Chemistry between couple was very engaging and realistic. The male lead was at times very frustrating and emotionally stunted. Beautiful soundtrack.

A very realistic romance
boboewen11 February 2018
Sometimes it takes people a lot to lose to realise what life is all about and how certain people are truly important to you. It's a very real journey of a young couple from LA to Romania, music and scenes are really great. However, the story became a bit repetitive to me midway through the movie.

A unique love story
gelllachlan9 February 2018
This film came as a real surprise. Though the ending is perhaps a tad predictable, it is made up for by the superb performances from lead actress Maria Dinulescu and lead actor Jonathan Ahmadi. The script is focused and engaging and there are some fantastic shots of Bucharest and surrounding environs. Recommended.

A tragic love story
neville_henry22 February 2018
This is a beautifully made movie. The cinematography was extremely impressive with a real sense of early Arthouse meeting with a French New Wave style of direction.

The two characters are clearly in love from the outset and are slowly pulled apart emotionally, culturally and geographically. It's certainly not a conventional 'Hollywood' love story by any means, so probably best to leave the rose tinted glasses off for this one.

It's a love story that is true to itself and occasionally you'll find yourself dragged through the everyday mundane moments that is their life together, but this gives you a truer sense of their reality and the negative impact that external pressures can have on a relationship.

Anyone who's ever been in a relationship will definitely be able to relate to it.

Sometimes home isn't a place but a person.
allymorgan23 April 2018
Maria Dinulescu brings real depth to a character torn between her home and her heart. An authentic film about the struggles relationships face when those in it have different ideas about where 'home' is.

modern love story ?
flejklw19 August 2022
I was pretty much glued to this film for the 1hr 33mins , the storyline isn't unique but the film just seemed to flow. If you are looking for a love story i guess this would be it, the female role especially stood out, as the film is mainly based on her character and how moving from the states to Romania seemed to I guess change her perception on her marriage.

However there are a lot of holes in the script to keep you guessing, actually at the end your asking yourself, Did she or didn't she ?, even when you watch the last act at the end, I was still not entirely sure what to make of the way it was acted out.

Well worth a watch.

Love across borders
edwards_carl23 February 2018
A touching film exploring the turbulence of love as it moves across borders. Fantastic to see such a strong female lead, who really made the role her own.
