Great Interview
Peter Baumgartner, Filmkameramann (2014)
**** (out of 4)
Cinematographer and producer Peter Baumgartner is interviewed for this 29-minute featurette that takes a look at his career in front of and behind the camera. If you're a fan of the work of Erwin C. Dietrich or Jess Franco then it's possible you've seen some of Baumgartner's work. Such titles include JACK THE RIPPER, LOVE LETTERS OF A PORTUGESE NUN, HIGHER AND HIGHER, SELF SERVICE GIRLS, COME PLAY WITH ME 2, CAGED WOMEN and various others. This is really a fascinating interview because I'm going to guess that most people aren't familiar with Baumgartner's name yet he has worked on some very big projects and this gives him an insight into their production. It was great fun hearing about a certain title that Jack Hill was directing for Roger Corman but Hill had a drug issue that forced him off. It's fun hearing about a meeting that Klaus Kinski called before shooting JACK THE RIPPER. We get some great stories about Franco as well as Dietrich and those make this a must-see. There are a lot of nice clips here and it's certainly worth watching for fans.
