Dim lighting does wonders
nogodnomasters30 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Kathy Harper (Vanessa Angel) moves into an old Victorian home with her three children as she runs away from an abusive relationship. If you happen to espy the title of the film, you know there is something supernatural in the walls. Odd things happen. Weird dreams and flashbacks. The house turns on the family.

The scenes were okay, however, the overall plot made no sense. The house wanted the family to stay, yet did everything to drive them away. Why?

Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity. Brief Clothed rape?

Uhhh......

This is a very confusing movie. There are a lot of questions you don't get answers to until the end and still some left open. All the men in this movie have a sleazy vibe to them. The mother seems to maybe have some mental issues and a problem with her youngest son. There are flashbacks, day dreams/hallucinations and you are not sure which is which. Through the whole movie you are left wondering what is going on and start thinking maybe your blue ray skipped a scene. Reminds me a bit of the movie "Mother!"

Inside the walls?

Cobwebs, dust and darkness. Hazy dreams, haunting music. Don't forget the air grilles and 2-way mirrors. Waiting for a plot.

Shockingly self indulgent romp into 'horror'
mathaiosmalekos29 July 2018
A shockingly self indulgent romp into the realms of 'horror'. With its hammed up acting, non-sensical story line and a generally poor plot, it's quite remarkable that this film ever made it off the cutting room floor.

Its' writers should hang their heads in shame. The acting, though not terrible, (considering what poor material the actors had to go on), is cut into non sequential segments, and it frequently seems as if the film has been produced by two heads - neither of which knows what the other is doing.

And so a premise, a story in waiting, misses countless opportunities to really explore what could have been a potentially fascinating plot.

The sound and volume of the actor's voices is so low that if your neighbour in the cinema ruffles his popcorn, you've lost an entire script segment.

The first hour is filled with some suspense but met with little consequence and sadly drags the final 30 minutes into a farce, even producing lauhter where the audience should have been on the edge of their seats.

If you want to lose 90 minutes of your life, this is the film for you.

What in the flying f...
jolene-727171 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The movie starts out like any other horror movie filled with mystery. A family moves into an old house and apparently the house is haunted (?). The family goes through some trouble with the house but at the end....well, here's a spoiler for you; the 'house' apparently bred a 'monster' and the whole situation turned into some C-grade movie with shitty acting, horrid CGI, wtf dialogues and some kinda 'boss fight'. WHAT IN THE FLYING F...

Yea just don't watch it.

How could this happen? Why?
ravenhair70210 July 2019
Oh...my...god. How could this piece of garbage get green lighted? How could someone actually pay someone to direct and act in this miserable waste of a film? Were the actors blackmailed into it? Were their families threatened if they didn't do the movie? All these questions and more will be answered in the next exciting episode of WHY DID I RENT THIS WRETCHED PIECE OF (CENSORED!!) I mean, wow. It was so slow and boring. I really watched the whole movie, hoping something would happen. At the end, it was so freaking confusing. The special effects were hopelessly terrible and the acting sucked. I don't want to be a hater, but this film was especially horrible. AVOID this movie, people. Save your money and time. You won't get either back. Peace.

Worst horror movie ever!
jbarrelllaw19 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I've seen some terrible movies in my time but this one takes the cake, don't waste your time, you'd be better off looking for chores to do around your house than watch this movie. There is absolutely no backstory about who, what, where, why or how the house is haunted or possessed. The same pretty much goes for the "victim" family that moves in, save for a couple of flashbacks that don't help too much. To top it off, there's almost no dialogue, just very depressed characters in a very depressing home stuck in perpetual dim lighter or gloom. The "evil thing" in the house is completely lame, it's part zombie attached to an umbilical cord/blob of blood with multiple tentacles that somehow gets around through the house via HVAC system without disturbing the dust and cobwebs!!! SPOILER ALERT....the ending is just as bad, mom basically sacrifices herself so the kids can get out, has a chance to at least explain that to the kids before she gets sucked back, but doesn't so you basically have to draw that conclusion yourself and your left with an ending with no rhyme or reason as to her being part of the house.....totally lame, how anyone else gave it more than 1 star is mind boggling!!!!

It had so much potential.
crazy_smilers1 October 2020
The concept and some of the horror was good. But too much was thrown in that is cheesy. I hated that aspect. The other is plot holes. Many good movies even have them but this one wasn't good enough to make those mistakes. It was often just too none sensible which drove me nuts. It's like why is this happening? Huh? But why...? And so on. I had too too many of those. It was annoying. I felt it was filmed without having the script edited enough. I feel someone just wasn't listening and was confident in it being how it is but no. It was not. The acting could be good at times but others just bogus. I hated when I could tell they're just acting. You know? You are no longer submersed into the movie. You see it for the reality and no one wants to see that when watching a movie.

Sigh! You could have had something good, not great, but good. Instead no. Okay at the most. I'm disappointed in whoever dropped the ball here.

Another horror money grab
kobek-4658321 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The effects are not well done what so ever, same with most of the jump scares. The god awful CGI made my whole family laugh at the movie (including young kids). In one scene they splashed a still image of two hands on the screen out of nowhere, and then transitioned to the sky?

I liked the concept of the movie but the way the did everything was so awful. Like at the ending they didn't even go looking for the mom, the son was just like "yup, she's gone" even though they didn't actually look around the house lol. It looked extremely rushed towards the end, but the realllyy need to polish up their effects because it went to a "horror" movie to a comedy movie.

Please do not pay to watch this movie, it's so god awful. Movies from years ago have done horror and effects so much better than this, it's like someone just discovered how to use Blender and Vegas Pro.

Their voices are low, have many jumpscares but none of them were effective. No story at all, non-sense.

Uhm yeah, this was something else...
paul_haakonsen11 February 2021
I was initially lured in to watch the 2018 horror movie "Behind the Walls" because of the interesting cover the movie had, but also because it was a horror movie that I hadn't already seen.

And now that I have seen "Behind the Walls", I must admit that I am sitting here with a sensation of 'what the H... did I just watch?'. This movie, from writers and directors James Kondelik and Jon Kondelik, set out to want to do a lot of things all at once, but ending up delivering not even on a third of those things. You are let with a whole lot of unanswered questions at the end of the movie, and trust me, you'll be wondering what this was all about.

It felt like directors James Kondelik and Jon Kondelik wanted to cram as much shocks and jump scares into the movie as they possibly could, as well as putting as much strangeness into the movie as they possibly could. And believe me, there was a lot of horror elements going on. But it was just too much, and it was all the time. And 99% of the things you get to watch are never brought to fruition, there are no end or satisfying meaning to what you just witness on the screen. So you are left with a lot of unfulfilled things throughout the course of the movie.

The storyline in "Behind the Walls" also feels behind the walls, because there was no head or tails to it, no proper red thread through it all, and it just felt like it was a collection of small scenes and fragments of film captured by directors James Kondelik and Jon Kondelik and then edited together to make a movie.

The acting in the movie was adequate, although you never really get to form any relations to the characters, as everything was just done rushed or halfheartedly. Again, the writers and directors set out to want too much and delivered too little.

Visually, then "Behind the Walls" was definitely interesting and nice. There was a lot of interesting things throughout the course of the movie, and the special effects were good. Just a shame that the storyline was such a heap of scrambled rubbish.

My rating of "Behind the Walls" settles on a four out of ten stars, based mostly upon the visuals and the bombardment of horror elements. If you are looking for a movie with a plausible and coherent storyline, then "Behind the Walls" is not the best choice.

Very hard to hear
maemilio2 August 2021
This movie was hard to follow and that was made even worse by how softly the actors spoke. Even with the volume turned up higher than normal, their voices were so low and the background noise in the movie (not the theater, in the movie itself), was so loud that I missed at least half of the dialogue. I have a feeling I didn't miss much but I still would rather have heard it than not.

Plot Confusion!
cmg-561016 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I know this movie has gotten a lot of negative feedback, but I personally thought it wasn't bad. I know I have seen much worse, by far. However, there is a major point of confusion for me,

The plot explains that there is an evil there that's waited for years, however, when the little girl first falls into the basement and she walks over to pick up her frog that appears magically....she looks up and sees the "evil" and says "Daddy." Then, she smiles in a somewhat creepy way. And it seems later on as if this is, in fact, their father that has somehow manifested into this ...thing...which when his brother shows up out of nowhere, he seems to imply that their dad is dead when tells Kathy to tell the kids why they can't see him and he can't see them. Then when Derry catches Karrie talking into the vent and goes to tell their mom, Karrie literally comes out of nowhere wearing a coat we can only assume is their dad's (mostly because of the comment she makes to mom) and straight tackles him. During their tussle, their father speaks and it comes across as if he IS the thing in the house by the comments he makes. Then, to add to that, Mike seems to have a crush on a girl we never even see or meet until he takes out trash one night. They are new to this town, how did he even meet her? So the next time he tries to see her, she isn't with her friends, but appears out of thin air when he closes the trashcan lid. After a failed make-out attempt, he goes into the other room and they talk through the walls. Then, she literally just gets kind of absorbed into the wall after telling Mike he has no idea how much it means to her that he is thinking about staying. So is SHE the evil thing? Then back to the uncle (the dad's brother), he breaks in after being thrown out and you hear a voice tell him "You aren't supposed to be here." That again would go back to the thing being the dad. Or heck, is it the uncle since he ended up losing his head over the matter?!?!?! And does anyone recall the daughter mentioning "elves" when they try to leave but the doors are locked and they find the uncles head and the thing comes out of the basement. Elves now too? Geez.... I could keep going but I just can't.

So that's my whole issue with the movie. Because when the mom says "Take me. I have what you want" the thing lets the kids go and takes her, but he does again try to take the kids later (which he said earlier during the twins' tussle, that they would all be together again). It does seem to appear he never harmed the kids considering they constantly say how they wish he was the there. The daughter really more so than her twin brother. But whether or not he ever harmed them doesn't really matter because if it IS him, maybe he just wants his kids with him (this is one way to look at it also).

In the things said and the actions made, it all seems to point to this thing being their father that their mother has ran from, but that is nowhere near matching to the plot summary.

Pure garbage!!! Don't waste your time!!!!
bencardonick6 December 2018
I can't even call this a movie because it has absolutely no plot whatsoever, no consistent theme, not one redeeming quality at all. I'm positive that there is not a script or screenplay, just a bunch of random scenes that don't make any sense. It is truly the worst thing anyone has ever chosen to put on film. I gave it about 30 minutes just to see if I was wrong, but I should have trusted the opinion I had made in the first 30 seconds.
