In 1974, the year of the fiftieth anniversary of Lenin's death, and every year since, the Soviet Mountaineering Federation and the Sports Committee organize an international mountaineering gathering in the Soviet Pamirs, at the top of Lenin Peak (7134m), today now called Pic Abu Ibn Sina. The world's best mountaineers are present, including the Soviet women's team, led and guided by Tatiana, who will perish during the descent. Bernard Germain, Michel Berquet, François Valla and Henri Sigayret take advantage of this event to climb the north face of the peak and perform the descent on skis. The trip from Moscow to Kyrgyzstan is done by truck, tightly supervised. This is an opportunity to recall Soviet history and the ties that unite the two countries.
