The writers missed a great opportunity

Warning: Spoilers
I started watching this show because I was a big fan of the TV series with Jack Klugman and Tony Randall. I like Matthew Perry. I never saw the show Friends, but I have seen him in other shows like Go On. I really liked that show and was sad it did not continue. I do not understand what exactly is wrong with his acting in this show. He is usually a good actor but he seems quite wooden and looks like he is always angry.

I am still watching the show, hoping that it will improve. It isn't a horrible show, but Perry's acting really needs to change. Most of the shows are still entertaining with enough comedy to keep me watching.

When I saw that Weird Al was going to be in this episode, I was thrilled. I love Weird Al. He is so funny. The absolutely best concert I have ever been to was one of his. However, I was really disappointed with the way the writers blew an awesome opportunity. They really did not write Weird Al any great lines. His role was so bland. I think that they need to get some different writers for this show.

With different writers and some changes to the way Matthew Perry delivers his lines, this could be an amazingly funny show. For now, it is a little better than average. I have given most of the episodes around a 7. They most certainly could be a 9 if there were just a couple of little changes.

A huge difference in quality between the two plots

With this version of 'The Odd Couple' being more of an ensemble show rather than solely resting on the heads of the actors playing Oscar and Felix, the writers by this stage of the first series have started having two story lines per episode, one featuring Oscar, and one featuring Felix, with the supporting cast being split accordingly.

The Oscar story line isn't funny. It's a premise that has been done to death in sitcoms and there's nothing really new being added to it.

The Felix story is far better, and features the ever developing Felix/Emily love story, that has been well played by Lindsay Sloane. The addition/more regular use of Murph is also a bonus to the show too.

It's an episode of two stories really, one good, one bad.
