- Buldeo, the evil hunter of the village, and Ganshum's grandfather, tells his outraged fellow villagers an incredible story: one day, he ventured deep into the jungle and came upon some grey monkeys guarding the secret of eternal youth, who offered him some delicious wine.
- Ghanshyam is Radha's friend in the village. Ghanshyam is also Baldev's grandson. Ghanshyam hates that Radha is spending all her time with Mowgli ever since he has come to the village. Plus, he also badly insulted Baldev in front of the whole village.
The whole village watches an elephant perform tricks for entertainment. Next, Baldev decides to tell his amazing story to the villagers. Baldev says that the forest is big and beautiful. It is protected by large monkeys who do not let anyone enter the forest. But the monkeys consider Baldev as their King, and never stop him from entering the jungle. The monkeys also brought him coconut wine, which is delicious.
Baldev talks about a Shaitan, who breathes fire and has a face made of a Lion and the body of a Crocodile, with the wings of eagles attached to its back. Baldev says that everybody knows about the man-eating tiger, who ventures into the village and has a reward of Rs 100 on its head. Baldev says that the man-eating tiger is possessed by the soul of the most evil man in the village, Puran Das, who had died the last year. This is the reason that the man-eating targets only their village.
Puran was killed by the villagers, and not he is taking his revenge on the villagers via the man-eating tiger. Baldev says that both Puran Das and the tiger have a wound over their eye. And this is proof that the soul of Puran Das possesses the tiger. Mowgli laughs at this story and calls Baldev a liar. Ghanshyam attacks Mowgli, but Mowgli easily swats him aside. Baldev confronts Mowgli, who says that there is no such animal like Shaitan as described by Baldev, and the story about monkeys is untrue as well. Monkeys are lazy and don't brew wine. Plus, Sher Khan doesn't follow the law of the jungle by attacking humans, and hence is hated by all animals. Mowgli says that he was the one who slashed Sher Khan's eye with Bhola's blade. Radha supports Mowgli.
Baldev challenges Mowgli to catch the man-eating tiger to prove himself correct. Bhola teaches Mowgli about fire, how to create it and control it. Mowgli knows that all animals are afraid of the fire, and this would be his way to defeat and capture Sher Khan. Bhola says that it will be difficult to capture a tiger without Baldev's gun. Slowly, Mowgli learns to control fire and overcomes his own fear of it.
Bhola also trains Mowgli in the art of using a blade, in a bamboo forest. Mowgli learns to use his power in the right way to cut through tough bamboo trees. Bhola helps Mowgli to get the right wood for his torch. This wood does not catch fire easily and hence is the right material for a torch.
That night Mowgli is attacked by Baldev's pet cobra, but Mowgli is protected by a Mongoose that he had befriended in the village. Mongoose kills the cobra. Meanwhile Akru tells Mowgli that Sher Khan is looking for him.
