Neither of the hangings of Milada Horáková or Rudolf Slánský, at opposite ends of the programme, are entirely accurate. The Austro-Hungarian hanging pole method, which Czechoslovakia inherited, did involve the binding of the feet and pulling the convict upwards against the pole, both of which are shown. However, in the case of Slánský, he should have been pulled to the top towards a noose attached to a hook on the left of his head, not with the noose already around his neck with which he was brought up and strangled until there was no resistance. The foot rope was actually used to pull the convict downwards after the application of the noose, not to hold the victims in place as they were being strangled, as is shown in both executions.
