10-year-old Carlos is spending the weekend with his father. Dad has promised to take him to see the fireworks on the last day of The Fallas, but other matters have gotten in the way, like scrambling to find enough money to play off his gambling debt. Feeling neglected and lied to by both parents, Carlos takes off on his own to explore Valencia and participate in the festivities. Meanwhile, his father must face the tough guy sent to collect the debt. The ruffian breaks one of the man's fingers, and promises to do even worse if he doesn't have the entire sum by nightfall. Ultimately we witness what lengths father and son will go to, in protecting each other.
