- TriviaAt the beginning, the woman complaining about the WiFi, is actually watching a Season 4 episode of Criminal Minds
- GoofsAt the site of the airliner crash, firefighters were attempting to put out the fires around the downed plane with water. Airplane crash fires are always attacked with fire-retardant foam, not water. Water would cause the burning jet fuel to spread out over a wider area and make the fire worse.
- Quotes
Dr. Spencer Reid: You've been quiet.
Kate Callahan: Sorry.
Dr. Spencer Reid: You know, a disaster of this magnitude is really hard to wrap your mind around, let alone your feelings.
Kate Callahan: You don't need to worry about me. What, are you are gonna profile me now?
Dr. Spencer Reid: It's hard to turn it off sometimes.
Kate Callahan: Look I guess, I just should tell you this... Hotch and Rossi already know. My sister and brother-in-law died in 9/11. They were working at the Pentagon.
Dr. Spencer Reid: So sorry. I imagine this must obviously bring back a lot of painful memories.
Kate Callahan: Yeah. Anyway I don't wanna do that weepy agent with a tragic past. You don't have to walk on eggshells around me.
Dr. Spencer Reid: My girlfriend was killed in front of me and my mom has schizophrenia... since we're sharing.
Kate Callahan: Thanks for letting me know. After my sister died, I adopted all ten of her kids.
Dr. Spencer Reid: Wow!
Kate Callahan: I'm kidding.
[Both laugh]
Kate Callahan: They had a baby girl, Meg. We took her in... actually Chris and I moved into their house. Anyway, she is thirteen and the light of my life.
Dr. Spencer Reid: She sounds terrific.
Kate Callahan: Yeah, she is. Maybe I could bring her by so you can meet her sometime.
Dr. Spencer Reid: I would really like that.
While there are unsub scenes, they are rare. The focus is on the team. It has been awhile since the writers have really relied on the team to progress the case. Usually it is a mixture of the team figuring things out, and the viewers learning things through the unsub scenes. It is much more interesting to watch the team get there first.
The writers throw another unsub fake out by having a scene following around one of the suspects at the beginning of the episode. Yes, the writers are going for a twist, but the scenes are boring and confusing. Do you enjoy the unsub fake out scenes? They throw viewers in with random people that aren't connected to the crime at all. What were they doing in the woods with guns? No one knows. They just were, and it isn't intriguing or exciting.
There is just confusion.
Then, the writers include a scene with the actual unsub. Then absolutely nothing happens. He is in a creepy cabin working on some tech. Nothing is revealed that the viewers don't already know.
There really isn't a purpose to this scene other than to show that this guy is the real unsub.
A little more of Kate's history is revealed in this episode. It's not a lot, but it really doesn't have to be. The writers are slowly filling in more about Kate, and they answer the question regarding the young girl's identity. The moment where Reid tells her about the sad or tough moments in his life is great. Reid is bonding.
