Viola Davis won the Emmy for this episode becoming the first African-American woman to win Best Leading Actress in a Drama Series.
Despite the legality of capital punishment in Pennsylvania, it does not actively perform executions. Three people have been executed since 1976; two in 1995 and the third in 1999. A moratorium on the punishment was placed in 2015. Death warrants are still being issued, however, with 110 prisoners on death row as of December 2021.
