Night like the Masons

Warning: Spoilers
Fian (Patrick O'Brien) follows the family business as being a psychic investigator. He is currently working on a string of gruesome murders that involves blood sucking. He sees the faces of the killers as do we the audience, generally doing each kill scene twice. The lack of special effects is covered up with bad camera angles, filters, and distorted lenses (Was that Vasoline on the lens?) ruining what could have been an interesting and unique film. It failed to create the intended mood, instead it made the film unwatchable.

Guide: F-word. Sex. No nudity.

Murky and enjoyable vampire film ...

Produced on a micro-budget, 'Night Kaleidoscope' makes every moment count - at least visually - with varied camera effects and sweeping, distorted panoramas across Edinburgh, usually at daybreak.

Director Grant McPhee provides us with a grim and dangerous world, and the cast are very good; much better than is often the case with films like this.

The story is a thin one, which may annoy some people. I loved every grimy, seedy second of it, and I hope it isn't the last we hear from Grant McPhee. My score is 8 out of 10.
