Surprisingly good

I was pleasantly surprised by The Untold Story. Stumbled on it and didn't really expect much initially but was drawn into the story of an older man who hit hard times but remained kind while looking for a way to dig himself out of that hole. Is this Oscar material? Of course not but I have seen much worse. The acting is good and the script and direction okay.

Not sure what to think

Warning: Spoilers
This movie didn't put me to sleep but it didn't make me stay in my sleep either. One of the things I loved was that Mr. Forester was nice and respectful to every fan he came across in the movie. I felt every one of his emotions when he lost Matthew at the marina. Like a gentleman he took the abuse and insults that were hurled at him. Nia's character was something else. On one hand, I admire her for raising her grandson and on the other hand, i wanted to hate her for being so rude and immature. Her reaction at the laundrymat was just funny and over the top. The grandson was handsome and had the sweetest voice when he finally talked.

Turd sandwich - Story should remain "untold"

I really can't fathom why this movie was made as it is pure drivel. Someone has obviously been skewing the ratings here on IMDB because no one in their right mind would give this an acceptable rating. I think the effort was there to make this film good but it was a failed attempt. I feel bad for the people involved because the result was such a failure. It came across as a very bad made for TV movie. The acting was mostly very bad, almost like amateur and people just reading their lines in a canned manner. The script was lame to the point of moronic. Given some time I am sure the IMDB score will plummet as more real people vote in. The only redeeming quality I could see in the movie is a feel-good vibe that arises from a down-on-his-luck actor who remains a kind person despite his personal setbacks. But this message is just not enough to justify the movie.

Enjoyable

A sweet film with very likeable characters. Obviously cheaply shot but this is not really a drawback. I enjoyed the movie not earth shattering but an easy watch.

How refreshing!
I hit on this movie quite by accident, seldom seeing the younger Van Dyke in any movies, just mainly television. The plot is a good one; the acting is also well done with great individuality of all characters. The setting clearly key to the story. How many people? Men and women alike? Have experienced a life ephinany in more ways than just one like this man? I'll wager far more than most of us realize...

I thought the sequencing was very good and the feelings of each character easy to identify if not see clearly as integral to the plot.

It's nice, for a truly REFRESHING change to just see a GOOD human drama without too many "bells & whistles" BUT "played as it lays" depicting much of REALITY of human life on this planet.

Kudos to the writer and screenwriter who developed this into a worthy interesting for all movie with a whole lot of life lessons without too much angst and no violence per se...Geez, you'd think "Hollywood" would "get" by now? Most of us are tired of the all too boring, oversexed movies that have no plot and are merely violent for the sake of violence and a real drag leaving the viewing audience "emptier" than when they tuned in.

This movie lets you walk away satisfied with solutionS to life's very real dramas!!!

Heartwarming and Down to Earth

Warning: Spoilers
While watching this film I wondered if some of the scenes felt familiar to star Barry VanDyke, being an older actor himself who is still very recognizable. Being handsome and subtly charming, I'm surprised he hasn't made more films with a romantic story at heart. I love the gentleness and patience of his character, whose life is far from perfect. He doesn't see himself as superior to those around him, and adapts easily to his new, much more humble lifestyle. I also admire his willingness to read a young writer/director's unsolicited script, which he becomes passionate about starring in, finding out later that the character was written exactly with him in mind. Of course, there are bumps in the road, and the film would never have been made without the dedication of it's intended star. There's a nice symbiosis between the veteran actor and untested writer/director giving one another a hand up in their careers. Nia Peeples and her character are icing on the cake in this film. Her performance is genuine, and I fell for her lovely character myself. As for Barry Van Dyke, this is the best performance I've seen him give. I've always enjoyed his easygoing co-starring roles with his legendary dad, but this is his chance to own the screen, which he does with quiet sincerity. Although the ending is a little too neatly wrapped up, and feels rushed compared to the rest of the film, I love happy endings. "The Untold Story" is comfort food for the soul, and I'm glad this story WAS told.

Nasim Pedram's performance was Oscar worthy

This movie was amazing. Nasim Pedram's performance was one for the ages. Hollywood need to to recognize her talent in acting and cast her more often.
