Against the backdrop of the recession and the war on terror, Persian Version is a quirky dark comedy about what happens to an Iranian-American coffeehouse owner who tries to stimulate business for his struggling cafe. Instead of waiting to be the victim of surveillance, the owner turns the tables and deliberately arouses suspicions in order to bring intelligence agents into the cafe to increase his sales. With the ensuing misunderstandings and cultural divides, the film is a parody on the current environment of hyper-surveillance.
