Wanting more
KeriNeal2 November 2014
Alex Colonna, filmmaker of Black Mask, takes us on a trip using a higher level of consciousness. Showing us the manifestation of how our past can come back to haunt us in various forms. The symbolism is elevated through the technical images; along with an emotionally charged soundtrack, ripe with thrill squeals. Actors performances were executed with conviction. The father, played by Stephen Manley, takes us on an intense ride of distraught and conflict over his gifted daughter's dark entity. The journey is short, approximately twelve minutes, moving at a brisk pace. Black Mask left me wanting more answers. Wander into the mind of Alex Colonna, preview his other trailers, and you will quickly realize, this guy needs to make a feature film.

Alex Colonna does it again
BretNewton8 November 2014
Black Mask gives us another look through the director's eyes and from under his own black mask, giving us a Kubrick-esque style that he does so well. The combination of a great cast and intelligent writing sucks you right in, keeps you on the edge of your seat, guessing until the very end, then questioning life and it's meanings when you're done. The cinematography is just the cherry on top, with everything dark, mysterious and making the key elements pop on the screen so we see what we are supposed to. So grab a seat, plug the RCA cable's into the back of your head and let Black Mask take over. Colonna's continuing to pave the way for his own name, with what I'm sure will be big things to come.

Fantastic Modern Film Noir Style! I could not break concentration from this film!

Warning: Spoilers
I downloaded on Amazon and just watched this. What a surprise. I absolutely loved this. Very dark and moody. I could not stop watching, even though I needed to put on a sweater, I just kept feeling cold because I could not break concentration on this movie (not like me at all). I don't get to see much of this style anymore. The intelligence of this movie, the avant-garde and film noir styles. Just what I like. I am a Woody Allen fan and old film noir fan just for this reason. I am very interested in Alex Colonna, now. Want to see more of Stephen Manley, too. The combo was terrific. Great acting all around. Bring back this old film noir to the big screen. I also loved the puzzlement of this, the character study. It also caused me to start researching the meaning of the black mask, especially in dreams. PS I flinched when Mr. Manley put that drill into the back of his neck. Wow. Great stuff.

I should also add, being a huge Alfred Hitchcock fan, I feel that Alex Colonna even outdid him here. I absolutely adored that I could not figure out what was going to happen next, and then was surprised of what did happen. It was just mysterious enough, without being frightening. Perfect.
