- With mods that automatically get installed in the game, you can get weapons such as knives and guns and use them for very gorey and violent purposes. Blood will splatter, and in some maps you get to choose the level of blood. Dead bodies are mildly disturbing to see and in this game the blood can get very disturbing even on the lowest level.
- You can download grotesque and violent creatures like The Flood and Necromorphs.
- The M9K Mods (For Example The Ones By INCONCEIVABLE!) Can be quite gory and bloody at some points
- you can drop nukes if you download certain addons
- The Source engine's ragdolls have comical noises when a ragdoll hits a solid object from a high point.
- Gore mods exist but are sometimes hard to find. Most are unrealistic and just shrink the characters limbs.
- You can turn off blood with properties or mods
- When a npc dies they will turn into a ragdoll
- The game is relied on installing mods to make it more fun, this obviously includes weapons or making blood splatters more abundant and brutal
- While the base game is not that gory, but the purpose of the game is to mod things and there is pretty much no limit to how realistic or gory or violent the game can get.
- The killing is just like Half Life, Creatures (including zombies) have Yellow blood.
- Humans have normal red blood, it will splatter but its not that bad.
Profanity

- If you kill Barney Calhoun, one of the stock NPCs that comes with the game, he'll say "Shit" sometimes.
- Alyx Vance and multiple other characters included in the game say "Oh My God" when they die.
- There are humorous mods that include swearing.
- If YOU decide to play online, other people may swear.
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

- There is one mod which adds vapes, but this is meant to be comedic.
- There are mods that allow you to take drugs and cigarettes and vapes.
- Nothing in base game, besides some alcohol bottles from Half-Life 2.
Frightening & Intense Scenes

- It's not intentional, but the single-player mode can feel unnerving to some players. Likely because the Ambient Noises and Graphical design. A mod called "Background NPCs" can make it feel less creepy.
- The game can become intense if the player decides to spawn certain enemies.
- Due to the "Rig" of the ragdolls, some may have unnatural appearances, and may look like their bones are broken. This only occurs in some mods and mounted content though.
- Garry's Mod is famous right now because of nextbots, png images that chase the player around, some nextbots may have scary pngs and some might have jumpscares.
- There are many horror maps available to download for the game.
