- The father is laid up with a broken leg, strait-laced young Father Roland standing in for him. When unpopular village gossip Mrs Bunyon is killed after a row at a cake baking contest Mrs McCarthy and Lady Felicia gather evidence for Father Brown to unmask the murderer - who has also killed MRs Bunyon's baking rival Vera Thimble. Many years earlier both women gave evidence which led to the hanging of a man accused of murdering a young child. Father Brown draws the connection and tries to save a third witness from becoming the next victim.—don @ minifie-1
- After winning the prize at the Women's Institute fair for having the best cake, Judith Bunyon is poisoned. She had an argument with Vera Thimble who accused her of cheating. Mrs. McCarthy didn't like her pointing out that Judith was a terrible gossip and it seems that she had received a threatening note just before the fair. So has Vera but by the time Lady Felicity and Mrs. McCarthy arrive to ask her about it - Father Brown is incapacitated with a broken leg - she too is found dead. Insp. Sullivan suspects Dinah Fortescue, who was seen having an argument with Vera at the fair and arrests her after finding her fingerprints on a teacup in Vera's house. Father Brown learns that all three women once gave evidence against Albert Evans who was hanged for murdering and molesting a four year-old girl. It's clear that someone is out for revenge.—garykmcd
- While father Brown's broken leg heals, ambitious episcopal protege father Roland as acting curate collects funds for the church spire. The film from his Swaziland mission is embarrassingly substituted with porn at the women's institute Daughters of Jerusalem. Next several of its crone members are murder-targeted. The only link is each was involved in the death sentence of alleged molester-murdered Albert Evans years ago.—KGF Vissers
