- At night at Quantico a hit-and-run driver kills a woman Navy petty officer; while investigating, Gibbs and company find a suspect, who has a solid but complicated alibi; the gang, a lawyer, and a local cop figure out the whole thing.
- At night at the Marine Corps Base, Quantico, Virginia, a hit-and-run driver strikes and kills a running woman Navy petty officer third-class; Gibbs and company investigate; Abby identifies the nature of the vehicle, Tony and McGee narrow the search to one pickup truck, and they find the owner, who stops talking, hires a mouthpiece, and in confidence tells her an incredible alibi. Abby confirms that someone else drove the truck; the lawyer checks out the alibi and assures Gibbs that it's solid, but she properly declines to reveal the story; however, she drops a bread crumb, which Tony and McGee trace. Abby finds a thumbprint attached to a name, which leads the gang to a second Marine at Quantico. Tony and McGee develop a hypothesis about a three-way murder club; the weak link flips on his co-conspirators, so he gets the deal. Gibbs and the lawyer share a dinner and a pleasant conversation.—DocRushing
- Marine Corps Base, Quantico. A female Marine is jogging down a muddy road when a red pick-up with a white stripe nails her from behind. The driver gets out to check and, upon seeing she's dead, flees the scene.
On the scene, Tony is missing. He told McGee he'd get a ride; he still hasn't replaced his car. McGee gets a text from Deliliah, they're thinking about getting away for the weekend.
The victim is a petty officer third class. She'd been training for a marathon and running every night.
McGee is curious about the "friend" who finally drops Tony off. Duckie estimates TOD around 10pm.
Back at the lab, from a headlight shard, Abby has ID'd the vehicle as a2005 Dodge Ram.
Upstairs, McGee reports that make and model truck is registered to Marine Staff Sergeant Justin Dunne, but he never left the base last night. He's a helicopter mechanic with a past DUI.
When Tony and McGee go check out the truck, they see it has serious front end damage. McGee is nervous things came together so quickly.
They go to pick-up Dunne, who is washing a bloody knife in his apartment when they knock on the door. He sneaks out the window, but McGee catches him.
Back in interrogation, Dunne tells Gibbs he hasn't driven the truck in a couple days and was asleep at home last night. He says he's been sober for 13 months. He won't explain why he tried to run.
Down in the garage, Abby is hoping to match Dunne's boot to the foot print from the scene. The truck is definitely the murder weapon.
The next day, Tony rides the elevator up with Carrie Clark, a former FBI agent now in private practice. She's representing Dunne.
When Tony notices she doesn't have a wedding ring on, he calls Tobias Fornell to get the scoop.
Dunne tells Carrie he wasn't driving his truck. She thinks he seems nervous. He doesn't want to tell her his alibi. After he quadruple checks that she can't repeat what he says, he tells her he was 35 miles away in Falls Church - stabbing a guy to death.
Back upstairs, Carrie says her client has an alibi, but won't tell them what it is. She says she's going to check his alibi herself and get back to them.
Down in the garage, Abby tells Gibbs the truck was wiped clean of fingerprints, even the spare key hidden in the wheel well.
Carrie calls Gibbs to tell her that Dunne's alibi checks out, but she still can't tell him what it is.
Gibbs notices she didn't call from her cell phone and McGee traces it to a pay phone in Falls Church. They think Carrie just dropped them a clue.
Tony and McGee head to Falls Church and notice a police car in the area and meet Homicide Detective Paul Dockery, who tells them the cigar store owner was found dead upstairs last night. He tells them to tell Gibbs he says hi.
In the garage, Abby reports she found a thumb print on the back of the rear view mirror -- it matched Private Daniel Cliff.
In interrogation, Gibbs asks Dunne about Cliff.
Out in the hall, Gibbs asks Carrie about the Falls Church murder and if her client could have done it. She only says he didn't do the hit and run.
In the office, Tony satisfies McGee's curiosity and says he's been riding public transportation.
When Gibbs gets there, McGee says there's no connection between Dunne and the dead cigar store owner. Dunne called a woman named Olivia Chandler at lot.
Gibbs confronts Cliff Daniels in interrogation and he cracks quickly, saying he knew where the spare key was from back when Dunne was drinking and locked himself out. Gibbs doesn't want to charge Daniels just yet, because they'd have to let Dunne go.
Gibbs goes to meet with Detective Dockery. The store owner was a bookie. Dockery is looking at a man named Kaiser who owed the bookie lots of money, but he has an alibi.
Back in the office, McGee has a photo of Olivia Chandler, the woman Dunne called often. She's drop dead gorgeous but married to a much older man. She has a DUI on her record.
McGee found Olivia Chandler's car on traffic cameras in the area where the bookie was killed. Gibbs tells McGee to try to link gambling or Kaiser to Dunne. He tells Tony to check out Olivia Chandler, making Tony's day.
Tony talks to Olivia outside her house. He admires her Astin Martin. She met Dunne in an AA meeting. Tony notices her suitcase. She says she's going to Jamaica with some girlfriends.
Back in the office, Tony looks over Dunne's credit card charges and sees multiple charges at a motel.
Their 48 hours are up and they have to let Dunne go.
Tony heads to the motel, where the desk clerk recognizes Dunne's picture. And even though he arrives separate from Olivia, he recognizes her photo, too.
Duckie drops by Gibbs' basement to ask him what's bothering him. He says he's worried about Carrie Clark, and burning her if they mishandle the direction she pointed them in. She could be disbarred for steering them.
Tony and McGee stake out Wendell Kaiser's apartment. They follow him to an AA meeting at a church. It turns out Tony knows it well. The Reverend knows him by name, from the meetings Tony attends. It's a men's support group, after the past year, he wanted to shake things up.
The Reverend drove Tony to Quantico the other morning.
Back at the office, Tony reviews the AA connection between Dunne, Olivia Chandler and Wendell Kaiser. Kaiser wanted the bookie dead, and they think Olivia wants her husband dead. They think it's going to happen when Dunnes ships out tomorrow and Olivia goes to Jamaica. Olivia drove Dunne and he killed the bookie.
Detective Dockery talks to Kaiser after his meeting, mentioning Dunne and Olivia to him. He offers him a deal if he talks first. Gibbs watches as they take him in to custody.
Olivia is about to leave for her trip when the police pull up to arrest her. They get Dunne off his ship before he ships out.
Carrie Clark meets Gibbs at his diner. He plays dumb when she tells him about the arrest of her former client. They found the murder weapon at his house. She feels good about things, she did her job and now it's not her problem. She joins Gibbs for dinner.
