- A romantic drama following two trans musicians -- the disgraced ex-punk rocker son of a record label CEO and a guarded former pop star -- after they are paired to write her an unlikely comeback hit.
- This story is about a trans man and a trans woman falling in love over music. Ashley Curtis is someone who needs a coach, and Max Talman is someone who can coach others but not help himself. Max is a rich kid, drug addict 'punk' who survives through his love of music, and Ashley is a defeated singer/songwriter who needs someone to push her. Like A Star Is Born, Once, or Malcolm and Marie, it is largely a two-hander, with a few other characters sprinkled in. The leads' chemistry is palpable, hot, and creatively passionate. The relationship blossoms voyeuristically in the tight quarters of the recording studio, as we redefine intimacy through sounds and close ups of fingers, mouths, bodies around the vulnerable music writing process. The duo are paired by Max's father, Stu Talman, an record label CEO, and it is Max, the black sheep's, last chance to redeem himself. Ashley is viewed by Stu as a throwaway client, an inconvenient mess, a complicated financial sinkhole. In the writing sessions, we learn about Max's skill pinpointing what makes an artist like Ashley great and nurturing that to success. Ashley shows Max that his family's view of him as the "problem child" is the root of Max's insecurity and Max needs to break free of that image to maintain sobriety and independence.—Producer
