Writer Paul Mayhew-Archer has penned comedy drama But When We Dance based on his own experience of Parkinson’s. Here are the details:
Work has finally started on veteran comedy writer Paul Mayhew-Archer’s next project: But When We Dance, a feature length drama which was meant to go into production for the BBC over three years ago, but the pandemic threw the schedule into chaos.
Johnny Campbell is on board to direct from Mayhew-Archer’s script, while the BBC is currently finalising the cast.
The story “centres on two people with lots in common: a great sense of humour, a love of dance, and Parkinson’s,” according to Deadline.
Mayhew-Archer is probably best known for co-writing every episode of The Vicar Of Dibley with Richard Curtis. He has worked behind the scenes in BBC comedy since the 1980s, script editing shows as diverse as Steven Moffat’s Chalk to...

“The Roald Dahl Classic Collection” will be available alongside the newly released Puffin Roald Dahl books for young readers, “which are designed for children who may be navigating written content independently for the first time,” Puffin said. “Readers will be free to choose which version of Dahl’s stories they prefer.”
Last week, Puffin was in the eye of a storm when it emerged that the works of Dahl, who died in 1990, had been rewritten, with the phrase “enormously fat” edited to just “enormous” and “most formidable female” to “most formidable woman” among numerous other examples from his most famous books. People who opposed the edits include author Salman Rushdie, who described it as “absurd censorship,” and U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Transatlantic production group Red Arrow Studios has agreed a multi-year contract extension with Hilary Bevan Jones, founder and managing director of Endor Productions, the U.K.-based scripted producer of “Vienna Blood” and “Deep State.”
Bevan Jones’s Endor Productions became part of German broadcast giant ProSiebenSat.1’s production subsidiary Red Arrow Studios in 2012.

Taika Waititi has been tasked with launching Netflix’s animated Roald Dahl Universe – a gig that will manifest with Two series adaptations based on the legendary author’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Netflix has tapped Waititi – who’s coming off a recent Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar win for JoJo Rabbit – to write, direct and executive-produce the two original shows, each of which will explore distinct sides of Dahl’s most famous literary offering, the two-time-movie-adapted 1964 novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. One series will be a straight adaptation of the traditional story and characters, with the other set to focus on candy man Willy Wonka’s diminutive helpers, the cautionary-song-singing Oompa-Loompas. As Netflix describes of its plans:
“The shows will retain the quintessential spirit and tone of the original story while building out the world and characters far beyond the pages of the Dahl book for the very first time.

The International Emmy Awards held their 44th ceremony last night at the New York Hilton — the same venue that hosted Donald Trump’s victory party on Election Night. Host Alan Cumming pointed out that odd coincidence at the beginning of the festivities: “Oh, how quickly darkness and despair can fall,” he said. “I feel it is my moral obligation to inform you: This hall was the venue for one of the darkest, most destructive moments in our history.” Not exactly the most cheerful note to open an awards gala on, but alas. The TV film, whose starry cast includes Dustin Hoffman, Judi Dench and an army of tortoises, is just the latest attempt to film the works of Britain’s most beloved children’s author.
The former Raf pilot, spy and sometime lothario was enormously productive in creating stories for children of all ages that were charming, imaginative and just the right level of gruesome (not to mention a whole lot of playfully dark adult stories). Naturally these stories have proved rich pickings for various filmmakers down the years.
On top of short films and TV episodes (including the anthology series Roald Dahl’s Tales of the Unexpected), there have been nine feature length adaptations of the Norwegian-Welsh novelist’s work prior to Esio Trot.

Richard Curtis brings Roald Dahl's Esio Trot to BBC One in an adaptation starring Dustin Hoffman and Judi Dench...
This review contains spoilers.
Roald Dahl’s Esio Trot is the story of burgeoning love between two pensioners - the shy and quiet Mr Hoppy (Dustin Hoffman) and the outgoing-but-dim Mrs Silver (Judi Dench). Mr Hoppy is far too reserved to express his feelings for Mrs Silver, who appears to only have eyes for her tortoise, Alfie. But when Hoppy hears the object of his affections expressing dismay at Alfie’s lack of growth, he concocts a cunning plan to make her happy and win her heart…
Much criticism has been levelled at Peter Jackson over his decision to turn The Hobbit into three movies, with the final film running at around two minutes per page of the book. However, the book on which the 90-minute Esio Trot is based contains...

Judi Dench has admitted that she hates being told that she should retire.
The Philomena actress told Sky News that age is "just a number", adding that she would rather people let her "have a go" at things, rather than tell her she can't do it.
She explained: "It drives me absolutely spare when people say 'Are you going to retire?' or 'Don't you think it's time you put your feet up?' or tell me my age.
"I loathe it. I don't want to be told that I'm too old to do something; I want to try it first and then, if I don't succeed, then I can be told I can't do it.
"Otherwise, because you get to a certain age, it's 'Oh well, you mustn't do that because you might have a fall or you can't learn the lines or you can't see'. Let me have a go.

From James Bond to Willy Wonka, Matilda to The Witches, we chart the big screen work of Roald Dahl...
Roald Dahl has often been referred to as one of the greatest storytellers for children in the 20th century. His books have delighted children for generations, with their dark and inventive sense of humour and their eccentric, dastardly adult characters.
Likewise, his written work for adults has just as much wit and creativity, and over the years, he also worked as a screenwriter on a number of projects, including TV work on Alfred Hitchcock Presents and his own anthology series, Roald Dahl's Tales Of The Unexpected.
Given how it doesn't even take the likes of J.K. Rowling and Stephanie Meyer five years to have their popular works adapted by Hollywood, there has inevitably been an extensive crossover between Dahl's written work and the big screen. His work...

Hollywood is a business of looking forward to the next thing and trying to predict what changes will come. It’s also not out of the ordinary for Oscar nominees to parlay that nomination/win into future work. So with that, let’s take a look at the next projects for the actors and directors nominated at the Oscars.
Best Actress
Amy Adams
Next Project: Lullaby and Big Eyes
Oscar Potential: There is already rumblings of a campaign being crafted for her to win the Oscar for Big Eyes. She’s now a five time nominated actress and those “overdue!” voices will only get louder.
Cate Blanchett
Next Project: The Monuments Men, How to Train Your Dragon 2, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, Knight of Cups, Untitled Terrence Malick Project
Oscar Potential: There doesn’t seem to be much in the way of Oscar...

After his dalliance behind the camera on this year's Quartet, Dustin Hoffman has headed back to acting territory. He just finished Jon Favreau's Chef and has Esio Trot lined up, and added to that roster is now Boychoir, in which Hoffman will play an inspirational choir master. Alfred Molina and Kathy Bates will be listening in from the stalls.Francois Girard (The Red Violin) is the director of the indie drama, caling the shots on the story of a troubled 11 year-old given the opportunity to turn his life around through music. He has a fractious relationship with Hoffman's character at their New York school, but Hoffman, apparently, will refuse to let him squander his talent.Bates plays the headmistress, with Molina as another teacher. The hunt is currently on for an unknown to play the juvenile lead, although it sounds like most, if not all, of the rest of...
