- Set in Athens during the 2004 Summer Olympics, Vanderlei de Lima, a 30-something professional marathon runner, is at the starting line of his last Olympic Marathon. His mother, two daughters and ex-wife watch on TV from half way across the world.
As the race commences random thoughts and memories invade his mind: a bitter divorce, troubled childhood, his fathers passing, grueling training sessions, wins, loses, friends and time spent away from his daughters.
Swiftly an opportunity presents itself and Vanderlei makes a break for it. Gaining distance on the main pack, 10 seconds, 20 seconds, 40 seconds, he strides like a well oiled machine, when suddenly an Irish defrocked priest attacks him. Only 7 kilometers before the finish line.
Vanderlei faces the choice between giving up the race and finishing. His mind plays tricks on him, emotionally shaken, muscles begin to spasm. The choice is his. While the time is ticking...
