Dallas Roberts: Eliot Delson

Quotes

  • Eliot Delson : You do realize that certain individuals with a good deal of forethought went to a lot of trouble to keep the Shawn Manning parole as quiet as possible.

Al Burns : Best laid plans, right?

Eliot Delson : It's a media firestorm out there.

Al Burns : Well, don't look at us. Anybody could have been the source of that.

Eliot Delson : Yeah, well, now that it's out, we better find Manning sooner rather than later. Otherwise, the optics could kill us.

Al Burns : A murder suspect is running lose. A rape victim is being harrassed by the media. You're worried about optics?

Eliot Delson : When I said they could kill, I was including Manning. You weren't here when the rape went down. The city went crazy. I've never seen anything like it before or since. We had mobs in the street looking for this guy. Luckily, we found Manning first, which is exactly what I expect to happen this time.

  • Gordon Frost : Psychopath gets out on parole, murders his lawyer, goes after his old victim, and we still can't collar him up? Did I get any part of that wrong, Eliot? Because you can stop me if I did.

Eliot Delson : No, that is pretty much it, Gordon.

Gordon Frost : I and a number of people I know, who you know, have been working very hard to polish this city's image! This a crime-free global go-to destination town. And I won't have some madman screwing that up. Get him off the street. Whatever it takes.

  • Eliot Delson : Gordon Frost. If things go right for him, he's gonna be the next D.A.

Carrie Wells : Well, somebody eat his birthday cake?

Eliot Delson : Except he's right. If we can't bring in Manning, they'll just find someone else who can.

Carrie Wells : Based on what? There's not one piece of physical evidence that ties Shawn Manning to Jenkins' murder.

Eliot Delson : Don't start, Carrie.

Carrie Wells : He didn't attack Rupa tonight.

Eliot Delson : Then what was he doing there?

Carrie Wells : I think he was looking for her help.

Eliot Delson : You... you think he was looking for her help?

Carrie Wells : Yes. I think he wanted to see if she could identify the man who really attacked her.

Eliot Delson : According to the law, he's already been identified.

Carrie Wells : What if the law's wrong? What if Shawn Manning did not rape Rupa Nair?

Eliot Delson : No, no, I am not going down that road. Shawn Manning confessed. He was convicted by a jury of his peers. All I need you to do is find Manning, understand? Leave the rest to me, okay, Detective?

  • Carrie Wells : We can place Gordon Frost at Cordero's murder.

Eliot Delson : Gordon Frost? He's the head of the Homicide Bureau. He goes to murder scenes all the time.

Carrie Wells : Really? Before they're committed?

Eliot Delson : Okay... what are you two talking about? And I say that with some reluctance.

Al Burns : Frost parked his car at Molinero's ten minutes before Bobby Cordero was killed there.

Eliot Delson : Sometimes my therapist says "Begin at the beginning" and, oh, I want to kill him when he says it, but I think I'm gonna say that now.

  • Al Burns : We think Manning and Jenkins made Cordero for the Central Park rape. We think Jenkins then took it to Gordon Frost.

Eliot Delson : Okay, but then how do we get to Gordon Frost killing someone he's never heard of?

Carrie Wells : Because he had heard of him. Listen, we got a report from a mounted cop that can place Cordero in Central Park the night of the rape; only that report never made it into the D.A.'s file.

Al Burns : Gordon Frost was in charge of coordinating the evidence. He had the confession from Manning, but he also had DNA from the scene that did not match his. The last thing he wanted was to open it up to other suspects.

Carrie Wells : So he suppresses the evidence. Listen, Frost figures out that Jenkins is onto Cordero. He knows that eventually that cop's report is gonna surface, and then he can kiss his D.A. career goodbye.

Eliot Delson : So he kills Jenkins and then Cordero to cover his tracks. I can't believe I just said that. Who else knows about this?

Al Burns : Just you and us.

Eliot Delson : Good. Keep it that way.

    Carrie Wells : What?

Eliot Delson : If word gets out that we're looking at Frost, right or wrong, we're all looking for new jobs.

Carrie Wells : [talking over him]  Eliot, we can't just close our eyes and make believe this didn't happen. Shawn Manning's life is on the line here.

Eliot Delson : Look, this city is going through a rather painful case of deja vu right now. Before I make that worse, we need to get Manning off the streets. Then we go after Frost.
