All off-screen characters in the film appear through phone calls to Scott and Sarah and needed to be pre-recorded prior to official photography. The cast completed audio recordings at Matrix Studios in South Australia.
The film features a heavily rehearsed one-shot sequence that lasts for six and a half minutes. The sequence was completed in just nine takes and required 5 hours to capture.
Similar to films such as Locke (2013) and Rear Window (1954), the film takes place in a singular location for the entire duration. Filming was completed in the coastal region of Goolwa, South Australia, at a rental Airbnb.
With inspiration from two-hander plays, only two characters are ever seen on screen, with the remaining cast members all providing audio-only performances.
A self funded feature film, Going South was filmed over 7 days in October and November of 2022.
