Earlier this month, when Vanilla Ice announced via Twitter that he was boldly defying instructions to evacuate his Florida home in the face of Hurricane Matthew, it not only inspired what had to be the greatest (and possibly also the most depressing) tweet ever made by the Florida Democratic Party, but it also made one hope that it might really be a sneaky promo for an upcoming Weather Channel series wherein the rapper and reality TV star goes head to head with natural disasters.

The reality television boom hit us all pretty hard — as soon as networks copped on to the fact that they could create these programs with a very loose narrative at a fraction of the cost of traditional scripted shows, it was over. But while some of the reality shows make sense (The Bachelor, for example — man looking for wife, pretty straightforward), there are others that were just bizarre, and it makes you wonder exactly what the producers were thinking when they gave them the green light.
After a certain amount of time, viewers aren’t going to be satisfied with your average, run-of-the-mill reality show about dating or renovating a house or winning a lot of money. If we wanted that, we would just do it ourselves. Most reality shows deal with things that we can relate to, and blow them up into a large, uber-publicized version of themselves.

In addition to some excellent classic TV costumes for Halloween, "Today" welcomed Vanilla Ice to the plaza Thursday for a performance and an interview about his newest Diy show, "Vanilla Ice Goes Amish."
As Mr. Ice raps his classic hit "Ice Ice Baby," he is flanked by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which is pretty much the most glorious thing we've seen all week long. Remember how Vanilla Ice was in "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze" as a nightclub performer who stops a riot by acting like a fight is part of his act? Good times.
Happy Halloween, everyone! (And happy birthday to Vanilla Ice, a.k.a. Rob Van Winkle.)

Happy Birthday, Robert Van Winkle! Vanilla Ice is celebrating his 46th birthday today. During his rise to fame in the early 1990s, Ice became the first white rapper to top the pop singles chart with his huge hit, "Ice Ice Baby." After his musical fame began to fade, he switched gears and began appearing in reality TV shows. "The Vanilla Ice Project" premiered on Diy Network back in 2009. The series followed the Miami-born emcee and his crew of contractors as they renovated a house in Palm Beach, Florida. In his latest Diy Network adventure, the rapper-turned-home renovator swaps his celebrity for total simplicity in “Vanilla Ice Goes Amish,” where he tries to survive without mirrors, zippers or electricity in the ultra-religious Ohio countryside. Don't worry, Ice didn't leave his musical roots behind. The best part is clearly the theme song, an Amish rendition of "Ice, Ice Baby." We can't wait...

If you remember Vanilla Ice's appearance in the 1991 classic "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze," then you're going to love this little tidbit.
While chatting with the rapper (a.k.a Robert Van Winkle) about his new TV show, "Vanilla Ice Goes Amish," he was ecstatic about the upcoming 2014 Michael Bay "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" project. A self-proclaimed "Ninja Turtle at heart," when we asked him if he'd like a role or cameo in the new "Tmnt" he practically jumped out of his chair.
"Hell yes! 'Secret of the Ooze' is the highlight of my life and I'll never top it!"
He doesn't even necessarily need to rap or perform in the movie, either. He's totally willing to play whatever role he's offered, even if it's a simple walk-on.
"We could do a remake of the Ninja Rap, this time with dub-step! [Laughs] Or even [a role without rapping]. Anything,...
