- Olivia presides over a difficult divorce case involving a child custody battle. Jack makes a hard parenting decision and gives Eric an ultimatum. Grace discovers that the town council's budget committee has decided to close the library, but she is given the opportunity to raise the money required to keep it open.—Greensteam
- Olivia is hearing the divorce petition of Rosie and Zach Westen, which she believes will be straightforward. However, Rosie, at the last minute, requests sole custody of the two children, Allison and Eddie, which results in a firestorm of accusations on both sides in a "he said/she said" battle. Beyond Grace's own wants for the divorce outcome (as she is a close friend of Rosie, a library volunteer), Olivia is hoping that Rosie and Zach will have clear heads and consider what is best for the children. Pending those clear heads to be able to come to a consensus, Olivia will have to make the ultimate decision on what is best for the children based on what she really knows under the circumstances. Jack's work is preoccupied by the council budget meetings, which are centered on required budget cuts. Jack passes along the council's decision to an affected Grace--they plan to close the library. Grace doesn't take the news sitting down; she going to the public, holding a fund-raising event to meet the budget shortfall all before the final budget is voted upon in 48 hours. But even if Grace is able to make up the shortfall, there is no guarantee council will change their minds. In the process, Grace meets Cliff Harting, who approaches Maryellen and Justine about displaying his father's artwork in the art gallery. Grace and Cliff seem to have a mutual attraction to each other despite their disparate backgrounds. Jack's personal life is focused on Eric, who seems to come up with any excuse not to work. To combat that, Jack finds him a job with whom may be the most easing-going boss in the world, namely Moon working at the café in light of Justine now working at the art gallery. It is a job that Eric need not even apply and thus cannot refuse...or can he?—Huggo
