Great making of

A fascinating view on the making of "The Year My Parents Went on Vacation", one of the most successful and brilliant Brazilian films ever made. While one can say it's just more of the same in those kind of projects, basic stuff with interviews, clips from the movie and the shooting of some scenes, this one manages to become special besides what's featured there, and hardly ever one has the chance to see that happening in Brazil cinema.

Beyond the common elements in similar projects, the highlights comes from child actors Michel Joelsas and Daniela Piepszyk conducting interviews with the locals from Bom Retiro area where the film takes place and was mostly shot, except for the building where the story takes place; and that building is also a curious note because it's in fact located in Campinas, far from Bom Retiro and the location scout was a genius in such a choice because it gave the movie plenty of authenticity since it does look like as a construction from the area (as I was watching the movie, before seeing this piece, I could sworn that I had seen that building there, since I worked around Bom Retiro).

Lead and supporting actors, director Cao Hamburguer and his crew are all here to share stories about the film, its conception and what attracted them to that particular lovely story.

Don't feel confused if you see a shortened version of this documentary, for some odd reason the makers made two versions (one with 28 minutes, and another with 10 minutes, which is edited down from the longer one). The full version is the better for obvious reasons, it's more complete with the things it wants to present to viewers. 9/10.
