For the last two decade since the advent of Cable TV in Nigeria, over 300,000 subscribers have enjoyed the benefits of a wider range of programmes produced locally and internationally. The Cable TV providers have provided a service for families, sit-at-home individuals and even places of business like bars that screen exclusive programs such as reality shows, soccer matches with the Premiership, the League and European Cup that enjoy a large follower-ship in Nigeria. Cable providers in Nigeria like DStv, HiTv, TrendTv and DAARSAT are licensed by the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation to transmit and broadcast a large variety of programmes at different times which are suitable for different audiences. Although this is a problem seen across Nigeria, the highest number of culprits is concentrated in the southern and eastern parts of Nigeria. An initial report was carried out in commercial cities like Awka in Anambra State and Warri, Delta State, where looped piracy is not only common but is NOT even considered illegal by a large majority of its subscribers.
