Enjoyable action movie
whatgift20 January 2024
While there are a lot of familiar elements here, this movie feels different and fresher than a lot of the action movies getting released these days. You feel the main characters pain (both physical and mental) over the course of his journey to see his daughter.

The action is well choreographed and realistic, and the plot moves at a good pace, with some good emotional moments in between. It feels like a perfect run time that doesn't out stay it's welcome at less than 90 minutes. The ending is a little neat, but action movies aren't exactly known for their realism so it's somewhat forgivable. The final image put a smile on my face, just being a little different than the norm.

The lead actor does a great job, while the supporting cast manages well with the little time the movie devotes to them.

Worth a watch!

Could be better

Warning: Spoilers
It was fun to watch this movie because of those nice fighting scenes. But there were a lot of problems with plot and continuity.

First, it was a stupid idea to talk on the phone just before a cage fight. Pros don't do that.

Second, presenting the woman as a big problem is the point i will not get.

Third, how is it possible that usual mafia guys can take so mich damage and can still involve in fights again and again?

Fourth and the worst, by the way i did not see this in the reviews, day and night problem. So as we see in the movie, Berlin can jump from afternoon sun to midnight darkness in sixty minutes? And it's frim 17.00 to 18.00?

And finally, who the heck is that lawyer?

Decent action with a plot of colossal stupidity
ssvfolder-121 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I get it that the action movies aren't known for their story or logic, yet I recently caught this flick on Netflix, and I believe this one takes the recent lead as the stupidest action movie of recent times.

For example the plot revolves around semi poor MMA fighter\gym owner who suppose to do a fight which will bring him a lot of money, yet decides to quit to get to his daughter birthday because his ex decided she'd sue him for sole custody because he's no show. The whole movie happens during 60 minutes period of time.

He decides to run away (literally by foot), though eventually he loses everything and on the way fights his opponent anyway.

Aside from numerous plot problems that are ridiculous at best, the thing that caught my eye was the main lead's earbuds. There is literally zero chance they'd stay inside his ears entire time through his fighting sequences. It's a small detail, but it's been a problem for me for a long time.

The fighting scenes are decent and that's the only reason I gave this movie 5/10.

Considering everything, I guess this movie can work if you're under the influence and are looking for some mindless action flick.

German Action Movie with Emilio SAKRAYA
ZeddaZogenau20 January 2024
Genre films generally have a very difficult time in German-speaking cinema. And when it comes to action films in particular, German filmmaking lags far behind. I personally can only remember the humorous MMA hit PLAN B (2016) by Ufuk GENC with the superb stuntman Can AYDIN, which at least made people sit up and take notice that this genre is also possible in German-speaking countries. It's a good thing that the global streaming service NETFLIX definitely has a taste for unusual experiments. And lo and behold, successful director Oliver KIENLE (BAD BANKS) lets a remarkably well-trained Emilio SAKRAYA, like Franka POTENTE as Lola, run through Berlin against the merciless passage of time. Why this action occurs plays only a minor role. The only important thing is that Emilio SAKRAYA's Octavio is in a perceived emergency and therefore has to beat up half of the gangster world in the German capital. After all, why does he have his impressive MMA skills?

There's never a dull moment in this stylish, non-stop film, but you won't find any special flashes of inspiration in the script. But that's not a bad thing either. The film is a vehicle through which Emilio SAKRAYA can recommend himself for further roles in international action cinema. In addition to all the fighting, he can also play.

Dennis MOJEN and the internationally booked stunt people Marie MOUROUM and Bruno SALGUEIRO also appear in other roles. Otherwise, the other stunt people probably come mainly from Hungary. Oh yes, a very cute kitten named Onion steals the show from the hardened whipping boy.

Even if the film will certainly not become a classic of the genre, it is definitely good that German filmmakers are finally tackling such genres that are popular with global audiences. Keep it up!

Halfway through really enjoying it...
johnnycooke-8813021 January 2024
Thought I'd try a new throw of review. Am halfway through and really enjoying it. Definitely elements of Old Boy and Victoria here, given the fighting and fk up missing his daughter's birthday premise, and real time unfolding of the story, albeit not one unbroken shot. But the lead guy is fantastic, he's really struggling here, physically and emotionally, and with ever increasing conflict his day is spinning out of control. And it's funny at times, without becoming facile or silly. And the journey through Berlin is accurate, he's just passing my flat now😾Will continue review when finished... It's great! The writers took SAVE THE CAT literally but in a very good way. They avoided most cliches and wrote something really quite lovely, and super entertaining, and you will not stop grimacing at the climax fight sequence, some lovely Korean cinema esque violence. But at its heart, and it has a big one, is the story of one man's mission to do the right thing for a change. And to put the confession scene in the mouth of the father was also clever. I loved this film and to redress one stupid 1 out of 10 review that seems based on racism I'm giving it 10. Bravo.

VIEWS ON FILM review of Sixty Minutes
burlesonjesse520 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
"I can't right now, I've got a fight". Yeah you do, with the opposing fighter and every other ruffian looking to come to blows. Somebody give this dude a time out. Stat!

Anyway, Sixty Minutes is an action movie in every sense of the word. I mean every character in it knows how to brawl, as if Chuck Norris arrived on set as some AARP advisor. "Minutes" is also a race-against-time flick, as shown in its simplistic title. You put the two genres together and you've got some rock 'em, sock 'em thriller that doesn't always concur with the timelines, but never leaves you unoccupied or veritably out in the wind.

So yeah, Sixty Minutes was shot and takes place in Berlin, Germany yet no one speaks a lick of German or has any type of German accent. Incongruous but um, I'll let it slide. I mean few films have the urgency and/or bone-crushing voyeurism of "Minutes", a non-stop rinse, repeat of loud fistfights then payoff, then loud fistfights then payoff. Yeesh! Just imagine if directors Benny Safdie and Josh Safdie teamed up with martial arts guru Scott Adkins. In other words, what if 2017's Good Time and 2018's Accident Man had a cinematic tyke. That's what you'd get with Sixty Minutes. "This is bigger than you think". Indeed.

Edited lightning-quick, with a fierce techno soundtrack and personas with nasty dispositions, Sixty Minutes is about an MMA fighter (Emilio Sakraya as Octavio Bergmann) who throws a fight in order to be with his daughter on her birthday. Here's the rub: he's got 1 hour to get to said daughter or he'll lose sole custody of her (ouch, pun intended). Meanwhile mobsters who bet on his rumpus, are out to get him at every turn. It's like James Bond gadget-free but without the notion of death involved.

Bottom line: Sixty Minutes is one of those films where the main persona is put in a nonviable situation with little hope in sight. Howbeit, every little plot element of incessant furor seems to work out in the end, for better or worse. "Minute made".

At this point...just do the fight non?
deesirius24 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was ridiculous. But i of course watched it for the eye candy that is Emilio Sakraya. Be warned however that the plot of this movie is completely absurd!

The movie centers around a young man who has 60 minutes to get to his daughter's birthday party or he loses custody of her. The problem is ...he also has a fight event.

Due to his dilemma he bails on his match and it almost seems counter productive for him not to go through with it??? When he actually could have just done and gotten his actual match over with and plenty of time to spare to take a relaxing uber ride to his daughter's birthday??? Also what kinda asshole tells her kid's father that he is gonna lose custody of his only child that he clearly loves and who loves him back within an hour? Ok fine.

But alas...there would be no movie if things actually made sense. Youre gonna have to suspend your disbelief while watching this.

Anyways, he ends up destroying everyone and everything in his path in a quick and efficient way (once again proving if he hadnt bailed on the fight he couldve had his opponent on the ground within minutes with plenty of time to spare and take a shower, change clothes, do a photo op, save his gym and not lose custody of his daughter.) But okay.

The point of this movie is really and clearly the martial arts, the fights scenes were great and entertaining honestly...so for that im giving it a passable rating, clearly the lead character put in a lot of work into it and it shows!

Works because the action is solid.
destroyerwod24 January 2024
If there is one thing that is cool with streaming services despite being someone who still very well enjoy his physical movies format, its that little obscure movies like these would had probably never goes over my radar.

This popped on Netflix recently and i think its a German movie, well it happen in Berlin. I watched the movie dubbed in French, wich is another thing that would had been very unlikely to see during the "direct to dvd" era for a resident of Quebec like myself. A movie like this dubbed in french and released here. But i digress.

The general plot of the movie is one of the most simple ever. A father wich is about to fight in MMA against an opponent that is late has to throw everything off because he must reach his daughter in a certain ammount of time, otherwise her mom will try to remove his right to see her.

The issue is even tough the movie time itself fit with the 1h premise, you really have the impression the guy spend like 3h or more trying to get back to his daughter. There is no way he would had been able to do all of this in 1h. Unless the arena, his gym, and his ex house are basically at 10m of walk from each others.

So you look at it and think "why didn't he just fough the guy". Because there is no way the fight in the cage would had last longer than all that he goes trough. Basically the plot has more holes than a Swiss cheese.

BUT where the movie shine is with the action/fights. There is plenty of them, and they are pretty well done. Its solid choreography and good camera work. The movie never really slow its pace where you can start thinking about all the flaws of the plot. I only did after i was done with it and reading some other reviews.

So if you just want a cool martial arts flick while drinking a few beers, this movie is perfect for that, thus why i give it the score i did.

Incredibly annoying pathetic story
feelingod25 January 2024
Sorry, I couldn't watch till the end this incredibly annoying story of a stupid looser and drama queen two in one pathetic martial arts fighter. An immature irresponsible father who is unable to organize his life, however, this is all ridiculously dramatized.

His mental abilities make signing his daughter's birthday card a painful torture. What can we expect from his relationship with money? He doesn't deal with them.

Of course, the main action is the fighting. There are no complaints about fights. The fights are great. But the primitive storyline on which the fights are strung is so weak and so annoying, the stupid life helplessness and inability to communicate of the main character is so unsympathetic that these excellent fights do not bring pleasure at all, the stupid storyline simply does not allow you to believe and enjoy it .

Does the job
Leofwine_draca26 January 2024
SIXTY MINUTES is a fun little low budget martial arts thriller from Germany. It's made on the cheap but don't hold that against it because this has far more suspense and excitement than many a big budget Hollywood movie, riddled as they are with needless CGI and explosions. This one has a straightforward plot about a top MMA fighter who abandons his latest match in favour of spending time with his daughter, but various match-fixing gangsters are determined to stop him. There are slow spots and overdone emotion amid the action, but the fights come thick and fast and the choreography is always satisfying.

This has one of the dumbest plots ever.
cynicsick29 January 2024
Story: "MMA fighter Octavio only has an hour to come to his daughter's birthday" Doesn't sound too bad does it? Nope, its actually really stupid. I'm 30 minutes into this movie as I'm making this review, and I'm already wondering If I should waste more time with this non nonsensical story.

I saw this on Netflix and its obvious that it's an indie like movie that you just sit down and not take seriously, As the story unravels in just about 15 mins I cant believe that that was all it was going for...

A random dude about to lose custody so he as to go to his daughters birthday, but he was scheduled to have an MMA match the same day. When his wife or whatever decided to call and remind him and lay it on the line.

He decided to ditch the match to go to his daughters birthday, but this angered some goons for some reason and decided to chase him around town to try to get him back to fight, which doesn't make sense and really stupid.

First, they cant hurt him because he still has to fight and the movie loves to remind the audience, so now he beats up a bunch of dudes chasing him but cant hurt him as he runs around town because again he still has a fight.

Now get this, the goons somehow seem to find him wherever he goes, it makes no sense, desperately trying to get him back to the match. I didnt care to watch anymore to find out the reason why they were desperately trying to get him back because anyway you look at it, its stupid. Does it matter if he wins or lose? Whatever. With a much better thought out plot, the movie probably would have turned out ok.

Run Lola Run 2024 version
Objectivity22 January 2024
Loved it !

If you enjoyed the famous "Run Lola Run" with Franka Potente then you'll enjoy this one with Emilio Shakraya.

Different actors, of course, different script, different times, but the city is the same : Berlin, and the main man has to get across it meeting all sorts of obstacles in the way in 60 minutes, for the most important fight of his life.

It's epic, It's relentless. It's human. It's poetic.

The Germans sure do love their cross-city epics, and they make them well.

If you want a pure high octane non-stop edge of your seat action, ignore the negative reviews, don't hesitate - book the sofa for the evening and enjoy !

Delivered as ordered
xnicofingerx25 January 2024
Stupid story, stupid characters, stupid music, stupid Berlin. Stupid film? Maybe, but one that's fun in a certain way. The title says it all, it's all about and on the basis of this, the Netflix production at least manages to be an entertaining film that is easy to watch. John Wick 4 was watched as a warm-up for the probably watched more than once as a warm-up for filming, and probably again during, I'm just saying the scene in the club. Of course, this film is leagues below leagues below the great role models in all areas, but in the B-area it should certainly a good place in the B section. For Scott Adkins and the like it's definitely enough.

Don't waste your time.
This movie just feels like the writer came up with a few really cool ideas and then just threw them all together without really thinking about how they fit together. It's like the writer forgot to actually write a cohesive story, and just relied on flashy visuals and big action set pieces. It's definitely not the most coherent or well-crafted movie out there. It's not exactly a masterpiece of cinema. It has some interesting ideas, but the execution is a bit lacking, the plot is so distractingly scattered. I mean I get the attempt to showcase the breadth and width of crime & gang life but the storyline was so stuffed with the tangentially idea of heroic a dad, but what else is the movie about besides a guy having to run for 60minutes to his daughters birthday while he's being chased by gangs?😹

little more than fights
Kirpianuscus26 January 2024
An action film with decent, noble and not so strange desire to offer more than impressive fights and some tension.

A MMA fighter decides , in special circumstances, to be with his daughter in the day of her birthday.

Many and not easy obstacles. His determination, sacrifices and phonecalls .

And, in the skin of cliches and familiar situations, a story with few just nice sentimental sparkles.

Easy to judge it not just polite, its story works little more than decent, the acting is reasonable and the sentimental side not bad crafted.

So, not a wrong idea to see it , including the reserves about action films. Because, far to be memorable, it proposes a sort of life lesson, indeed, with idealistic touch and a lot of unrealism, at the first sight who , in large lines, has the virtue to reflect situation of many fathers, consequences of life between work and family , the responsability, evoked by his father, in short, maybe not exactly as pretext.

VERY INTERESTING CONCEPT
jeromesgabilo23 February 2024
What I loved the most about this film was its homage to early race-against-time types of movies such as Taken and Kidnap, and its plot was centered around a likable protagonist that was relatable to watch. It held me by the neck even from the very start as it progresses into the action-filled chase scenes. These scenes were even tinged with emotional edges into it which made the film more than just an ordinary action flick. The way that the director centered the story around the protagonist and his dilemma (which ironically is a bit problematic because of his questionable abandonment of the fight) was smart because it emphasizes the greater conflict of the story.

Came or the action, stayed for the story
I'm almost surprised by how good this movie was. I had expected some action, and the premise wasn't new. It's a film in real-time, not unlike "Nick of Time" with Depp or the classic "Rope" from Hitchcock. Basically, the bulk of the movie is that the main character has sixty minutes to get somewhere and there are forces that don't want him to make it. The movie starts off, then the clock literally starts counting down and it's Go-Time.

Because the scenes have to move quickly it was almost surprising how much story unfolds through dialog and interactions. There is more going on in this movie than just a guy fighting his way across town.

The ticking clock adds an extra layer of tension and I found myself checking the time on my own clock, not just the run time of the movie. They really do line up pretty well, which is a huge credit to the editors. This isn't one of those movies where they have five minutes to defuse a bomb, but we cut to another scene that's ten minutes of dialogue.

It was stressing me out various points in the film. But, it's not a super involved plot, and yet it has some good character development. None of which I typically expect from films like this. Well worth a viewing.

Like an 80s computer game in a movie
myicq-129 January 2024
The plot is new related to MMA. We kind of expect an MMA movie to be like Rocky: an all-out-fight in the right where the protagonist finally wins with a small margin. But this buffed dude struggles to wirte a birthday card to a 7yo girl (which looks nothing like him).

Then the strange twist that he runs from the fight, and starts the whole movie.

From there it starts of as good fun action. But very quickly it's like seeing a live action coin-up like "street fighter II" or "Tekken": no matter how beat up the characters get, seconds later they appear again and continue fighting. Even if being shot, having fallen down 10m on concrete.. Practicaly no nose bleeding or blood in general. And no ability to finish the opponent. I actually at one point wished for some voice to shout "Finish Him!".

There are other plot holes. Like how insanely easy it is to find a person on the run in Berlin, even with a GPS watch. How well seated that ear piece is. How simple it is to operate a phone by voice commands only.

I give 1 for the movie and 3 for the scenes in Berlin.

Do not waste your time
retababyagyare27 March 2024
Trust do not waste your time.

The movie issue could have been sold in 2 mins.

It's a story about a man crossing to meet his daughter. We didn't need an hour plus for that. Honestly

The movie was just dragged extremely and unnecessarily for nothing.

The whole movie had nothing extra to it. No sense , no thrill. Nothing to keep you going.

I just stopped at a point.

We did not need an hour plus for that honestly.

Bad acting, bad "action" kind of attempt.

Terrible.

I will not recommend at all. Nope. I think I dozed off a second and woke up and knew I had had enough of it.

However, you can give it a try.

Well done actioner for genre fans
LonghairedGerman20 January 2024
Saying that a movie is "not for the critics, but for the fans" means usually "I know I made a bad movie, but I don't wanna admit it". Nobody said it about 60 MINUTEN, but "for the fans" applies here in the best possible way.

This a movie for people who appreciate the ridiculousness of certain action movie tropes. People who are willing to laugh WITH the movie and not at it. It's pretty obvious that everybody involved here was on the same page. The movie's plot revolves basically around an unstoppable fighter who pisses off the whole Berlin underworld, because he can't miss his daughter's birthday party. And yet, it is all played completely straight faced and with the gravitas of a serious drama.

Apart from that, 60 MINUTEN also scores with really well done fights, full of long takes and impressive stunts, and a good semi-real time gimmick. I think they could've pushed the "What else is gonna happen to make him miss his deadline" angle a bit further though. On the other hand: They have an action movie that takes place in Berlin and have a fight in a bunker looking Techno club. They "understood the assignment", as the kids say these days.

Now don't get me wrong. As much as I enjoyed it, giving it 8 stars is for me a bit generous. It doesn't do anything innovative or outstanding. It is "just" 100% solid. BUT! It is German and Germans rarely have the chance to do action movies like that. So making one that can stand toe to toe with a good bunch of modern day US actioners is good enough for the prestigious 8 star rating IMO.

A fun martial arts action journey.
DarkVulcan2921 January 2024
A mixed martial artists whose life is complicated, while preparing for a big fight, and hoping to make it to his daughters birthday, but soon is told if he doesn't make to her birthday he will lose custody of her. So he ditches the fight and tries to make to her birthday in hopes in 60 minutes, but will he?

An enjoyable journey, with some enjoyable John Wick like fight scenes. I like the hero of the film is flawed but a good guy at the same time. Also good at showing things are never what it seems, the movie is not on the same level has Fast and the Furious franchise and in my opinion that's a good thing.

Just an entertaining action film
raisakhanhs26 January 2024
Emilio Sakraya did a good job in the main role. He looks young and fresh and also ripped for the role. The side characters and the negative characters are also interesting and impressive. The film is a very simple full on entertainment piece. Not a complex story but still manages to catch the audience all along. The camera and lighting works are interesting. Cinematography is impressive too. This could also be a good to see film in big screen of cinema halls. Berlin fits well as a background and where all the actions are happening. There's no plot and twist. Just very simple Berlin based action film which does not look exaggerated.

Dont bother watching it for a Plot lol
18Buddha2 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This film has amazing fight sequences and its nice to see a film where the focus is on MMA used for street fighting and its starring someone who actually looks the role of a super fit and fierce fighter. I think near the beginning is when I realized this film is gonna be crazy action when I seen the main guy do a crazy flawless Spinning 540 roundhouse kick and I was like whoaaa this guy is legit, he aint no actor playing a martial arts guy.. hes a Martial Artist being an actor lol.

The Plot seems legit but its so lacking in details and I mean I guess their doesn't need to be much deeper explanations into the bad guys but it would have been nice to make it a more complete film. Overall I think they just wanted to create a truly original and creative master piece of Action packed and they did a stellar job in that department. Hands down one of the best martial arts movies in the last 2 years... I mean John Wick 4 with Donnie Yen had amazing action sequences but its filtered throughout the film into segmented parts, while this film here is literally a fight every minut after the first 15?

1 thing i disliked was the title and the film trying to play it off like its 60 minutes.. literally u see the day is sunlight and suddenly its pitched dark lmao, I think someone forgot how time works lol. Following the sunlight cycle I would assume 3-6 hours passed lmao instead of 1. Anyway if u want to see nonstop action then watch this film cuz its off the charts with action, but again dont watch expecting a great plot lol... cuz its very lacking... so my 8 rating is totally only for the crazy action or else I would have rated a 6.

Best Foreign Movie In A While
orangeduck-9762713 February 2024
I know a little German although not enough to watch it in German, but even though there were voice-overs this is the best foreign film I have watched in a long time. A lot of action and conflict, it's very good. They did a good job casting the main character, although the acting may be worse in German since I was already expecting the voice-over to be bad. The storyline is really good and it's very action heavy. The fighting is a bit unrealistic but not enough to be weary about (since he's a mixed martial arts fighter) I really liked everything that was going on and the storyline is definitely really good compared to other foreign movies I've watched. I recommend this 100%. Only thing that bothered me was the amount of phone/headphone usage within the movie but it's not overly used and also it was dubbed over so the dialogue didn't roll as well.

Great movie!
dejongfranka26 January 2024
This is one of the few actually original action movies I've seen lately. Many repeat the same story in a new way, but I haven't seen this before. Such a good German film, the language is used really well so even if you don't speak German I suggest you use subtitles.

People say that it has a badly written story about a sad character who is a bad father, but I strongly disagree. I think it's about a very complex character in a relatable story.

The fighting scenes made me hold my breath. It was executed and filmed very well, with good MMA techniques. The story in itself was very enticing until the end.

Great recommendation!!
