Terry's unusually combative interview with Priscilla Presley received a negative review in the Daily Mirror (2nd November 1985) with columnist Peter Donnelly writing: "Is our Tel over-exposed? Overworked? Over-tired? I ask because of his strange Wogan interview with Priscilla Presley, notable for its lack of his usual beguiling blarney. He'd hardly met the lady before he was quizzing her in depth about the late King's sex life. And she, struggling with her ear-piece in Los Angeles, must have wished the damn thing would fall out altogether. It was a wham, bam, thank you ma'am interview which made you yearn for the laid-back style of Parkinson before he went off to play silly games."
Stories often made the press about Terry allegedly skimping on research and not listening to his researchers at briefing meetings - Priscilla Presley's two inquiries over whether he'd actually read her book meet with what seems a defensive air.
