This is not a laugh-out-loud comedy like your average network sitcom or even a blunt, cringe-comedy show like Curb Your Enthusiasm. It's subtler than that. You can't lean back and let the laughs wash over you.
You have to lean forward and notice how much subtle acting is going on as the characters face uncomfortable situations and try their hardest to repress everything under a veneer of feel-good-ness and woke politics.
Because that's what this is: a satire of the type of well intentioned, right thinking liberals who give themselves hernias squelching the urge to scream obscenities at an immensely frustrating world. Because that would not be politically correct.
Once you catch onto what is going on, it becomes fascinating. And it helps if you happen to like the actors. Because not everyone wants to lean forward into a show when so many are easy, lean-back shows to watch.
