No Chemistry!
drbayside6 December 2023
Why always old flame story line?

The actual story line was good. Except like I noted above the part about "the old flame" that's getting really old!

Loved seeing Chad Michael Murray, and hope to see him in future GAC Movies.

There was absolutely no Chemistry between him and Christa Taylor Brown.

Maybe it was the characters they played, maybe not. It was hard to root for them.

I did watch the entire movie, but kept hoping or wishing I would eventually see chemistry between the two.

They seemed more like brother and sister or friends then they did a couple who have feeling and love for each other.

Save the windmill!
mbiv7776 December 2023
Or the farm; or the plaza; or the outhouse.

This is another save movie, and quite run-of-the -mill (sorry) It stars Chad Michael Murray and Christa Taylor Brown. Just typing their names gets me halfway to the character requirement.

I gave it a six, but virtually all of that is on Murray. He's the anchor holding this whole thing together.

The story involves a cherished local windmill which is being threatened with demolition by the development company Murray works for. He rekindles a former relationship with Brown that ended in misunderstanding (naturally), and begins surreptitiously working with her against the interests of his company.

There really isn't much new here. Brown is very pretty, if she's not a model she should be. Her acting is better than some we've seen on GAF, but there is still room for improvement.

I would not recommend against watching this movie, but again, it's just ok.

Love Chad Michael Murray
peggyg-0118411 December 2023
Decent plot but honestly the only reason I watched the whole movie was because I love Chad Michael Murray but it was truly a struggle to watch the entire movie. Christa Taylor Brown brings nothing to the screen and comes across with very little warmth. Chad is able to create a spark in just about any movie he is in but even he was not able to bring out anything in his leading lady.

The other characters helped to liven up the movie but unfortunately so much of the footage concentrated on Christa that I was glad when it was finally over. I will continue to look for other Chad Michael Murray movies and only hope he doesn't team up with Christa again.

Run-of-the-windmill story
MickyG33325 December 2023
7.3 stars.

It's an okay film, nothing special, but I like C. M. M. He's always got that old style charisma, the old school machismo. The female I've never seen before, so she's fresh and obviously green, but she will come around eventually. The supporting cast were all very good and a big part of why I rated the film over 7.0.

The romance is fundamentally not present this go round, until the very very end, and so that is deflating for me. I enjoy a bit more tension between the leads. Romantically speaking, she has a way about her that is somewhat different and new, which I enjoyed, but as I said, still needs some work with her performance.

The story is nothing that you haven't already seen: town has a windmill factory that a real estate tycoon is going to purchase and demolish and replace it with a resort. His character left senior year in high school to pursue a career in photography, but ended up in real estate. She stayed in town to run the mill that her great grandparents started 90 years ago. They parted ways on not-so-good terms due to a misunderstanding...I'm feeling worn out describing the plot, it's been done so many times...

Why not rate this lower? I like the actors, and C. M. M. Usually entertains with his cool and calm exterior and he does it again in this film. I really need him to be cast into a better movie, he's been in some real duds the past several years.

Trite story and bad acting
seekingkindredspirits16 December 2023
I don't have high expectations for a holiday movie, yet I had a hard time just getting through it. There's nothing original or interesting about the story, the main characters had zero chemistry, and the actors sounded like they were reading from cards.

I watched this one with a few other people, and we all decided this must have been produced during the SAG writers' strike and on a low budget. We kept waiting for something interesting to happen, and it was really strange (and distracting) that the actors delivered their lines in monotone at approximately half-speed of a normal conversation, always in muted, whispery tones and with flat affect.

I don't recommend this unless you literally have nothing else to watch.

Same old stuff with no real hook
Jackbv1239 March 2024
Many Christmas movies are about saving the family _______ (mill). Many are about high school sweethearts with a bad parting. So, if we are going to watch a movie based on those very common threads, with a predictable ending no less, then what's the hook? It should have been rekindling the relationship between Mia and Brady. The story went there, but with way too little screen time and almost no development of that relationship. A few conversations, half about the mill and only half about the good old days, do not a hook make. Way too much screen time is spent on efforts to save the mill, all along the usual lines for a community icon. Also with a few ornamental exceptions, this movie could have been about any time of year, not just Christmas.

CMM and Chista Taylor Brown had little or no chemistry. CMM is more than a decade older than Brown and looks it here. (Yet they were the same age in high school.) Brown plays an appealing Mia. Her acting is fair and far better than one of CMM's less notable performances. He had no energy. Brown was fine with a lower energy performance but at least there was life to Mia. Other acting was poor to good. Dialogue had little spark. Background music varied with sometimes being distracting (which is a common complaint I have for this network.)

To make matters worse in terms of rooting for the relationship, I lost faith in Brady from the start. He is supposed to be experienced, so Brady could not possibly have believed a verbal promise would stand up. If he really valued Mia's family, he would have told mum to put it in the contract. At times Brady seemed shady, or lazy.

Ho-Hum - we've heard this script too many times before
steve1620-638-3014144 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie's too much like one of the Hallmark Rom Com's with their "template scripts." This one had the couple who dated in high school who broke up because of a misunderstanding. And the guy comes back to his hometown with a grand plan to "revitalize the town" with a resort. But then he rekindles his relationship with the girl, turns against his company's plans, and works on saving the town. The girl thinks he is against her priorities, but learns at the last 3 minutes that he's quit his job at his company, the town is saved by an historic preservation restriction, and the misunderstanding from high school gets cleared up. There is the kiss is followed by the credits. Sorry for the "spoilers," but this is a tired script that we've all heard too many times before, so I'm not really revealing anything you haven't already seen many times. I'd skip it.

Note to GAC Family - Stop following Hallmark's lead and write some original scripts!

Adorable Predictable and an Easy Watch
marissamatthews-303766 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Yes, this is just like every Hallmark, GAC or Lifetime Holiday movie. However obviously people like it because it works. This is honestly one of the better ones I've seen in a long time. It was refreshing to see a name on the credits that I grew up watching. Chad Michael Murray was definitely a big part of why this movie was as good as it was. I did like the little addition of the writers name being used as Chad Michael Murray's character's pseudonym. The holiday spirit was all through the movie but also wasn't shoved in your face. The only thing that I really struggled with was the dancing to Auld Lang Syne, felt forced and awkward. Definitely should have been something from when their "prom" would have been. Otherwise a cute, predictable, easy holiday watch.

Tough to watch when there's ZERO chemistry
yasmine-egle7 December 2023
I love Chad Michael Murray. I really do. But I gotta say, I watched this movie till the end only because of him. If there was some other actor, I would have turned it off within first 30 minutes. The story is so so, but the lead actress... Very bad acting, wooden, no emotions and there was no depth. CMM tried his best, but there was no mutual chemistry what so ever. It was like acting with a wall. I don't think the pairing of lead actors was good and I think, she needs some acting lessons as well. As a watcher I wasn't invested in the story at all, because the lead female failed to make an emotion connection with the audience. Just bad acting, unfortunately and not very interesting script.

Add this to your yearly Christmas movies list!
veroniqueb-0246410 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I really loved this movie! Although predictable, it was well made, well acted and it was refreshing to see a movie that was wholesome with an appreciation for old fashioned family tradition and romance! Very nice and I hope to see more like this! It reminds me old fashioned Christmas movies with love and family winning in the end. The best thing about the movie is that there was no politics, religion and current events as it should be. A place to get away from what is happening in the world and enjoy the holiday season. I recommend this movie. Add this to your Christmas movie list as a family favorite which the entire family will enjoy!

Stale Old Plot.
Grapegrower24 February 2024
Oh boy!

Script writers or AI?

Maybe the latter could have done better.

Same old plot we've seen 100 times before.

Surely there is room for more thought and research going into this type of movie genre. It's treating regular viewers with a little bit of contempt in my opinion.

In addition there is absolutely no chemistry between the leads.

She is devoid of any emotion physically or verbally, delivering the lines in such a wooden stilted manner.

He is obviously struggling with the script too as he is much more animated in other movies and TV series.

Maybe the editing contributed to the stilted conversations, who knows?

But all in all disappointing!

Like watching paint dry
frohfroh5 March 2024
Chad Michael Murray is always good, but there must be chemistry between him and his leading lady and in this case there wasn't any. I believe that Christa Taylor Brown was a miscast for this movie. Her style and his style are too much alike. They are both blonde and she is very soft spoken and so is he, so together they were so boring to watch. It was like they were brother and sister instead of potential love interests. It was a very hard movie to finish.

The story itself has been done so many times before that within 10 minutes I knew exactly how the wind mill would be saved and the only reason I kept watching was because of Chad Michael Murray. I will always watch a movie with him even if it's not good because of a miscast.
