This week in Rambling Reporter: On the heels of Sunday’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony where Netflix’s Queer Eye picked up a sixth straight trophy in the structured reality category, we’ve learned why the new season will be one episode short; Lenny Kravitz sets the record straight again on his BET Awards comments to Esquire; a pair of Quiet Place scribes make some noise in Iowa of all places; and Mauro Café’s owner has no plans to close anytime soon.
Why Queer Eye’s Next Season is One Episode Short

A string of crime around the New Orleans set caused panic among staff and...

A24 has forged an exclusive output deal with Happinet Phantom Studios covering the distribution in Japan of A24’s upcoming releases, including Alex Garland’s action film “Civil War,” starring Kirsten Dunst, which has a highly anticipated launch at AFM this week.
Happinet and A24 have worked together on the release of a number of films in Japan, including triple Oscar winner “Moonlight,” and “Midsommar,” whose gross in the territory was the biggest outside North America.
The companies will also build A24 brand awareness across the region, and deepen relationships with local talent and audiences off screen beyond film releases.
This marks A24’s first major international theatrical output deal. In May, Germany’s Leonine Studios and A24 extended their collaboration by establishing the joint label A24 | Leonine Studios in Germany and Austria.

As of today, October 13, 2023, Microsoft has officially completed its nearly $70 billion acquisition of publisher Activision Blizzard. Though the two sides reportedly agreed to an acquisition way back in January 2022, the deal has been modified, scrutinized, and debated by a number of regulatory bodies (not to mention other gamers) since then. Following an exhaustive process that required the Microsoft team to make quite a few concessions, the deal is finally complete.
There is so much to say about this deal, and we hope to be able to share much of that information with you in the coming days and weeks. However, you’re not alone if the first question that popped into your mind is “What games and franchises do Microsoft and Xbox now control as part of the Activision Blizzard deal?
The full answer to that question is long and complicated. As noted above, there are a number of provisions...

Three years after teasing Amid Evil fans, developer Indefatigable and New Blood Interactive have announced that the long-awaited expansion Dlc for Amid Evil in The Black Labyrinth will be arriving next month on August 18th. The expansion will serve as a “full prequel” to the main game, and brings with it new levels, weapons and foes as you descend into the eponymous Black Labyrinth.
The premise of The Black Labyrinth is a simple affair: Defeat the keeper of the legendary “Axe of the Black Labyrinth”, which will allow anyone who retrieves the weapon to claim the title of ‘Champion’. Before that, however, the trailer demonstrates some of the other epic weapons you’ll be wielding, including a pair of spiked gauntlets to punch the bloody crap out of everything (in a subtle hint to Amid Evil‘s inspiration in Heretic), and a scythe with the ability to magically freeze enemies...

David Gordon Green's "Halloween" trilogy proved to be one of the wildest swings to emerge from our current era of legacy sequels and revivals, sporting questionable lines of dialogue ("Evil dies tonight!") and a narratively suspect yet fascinating finale. In light of this, it's hard not to be intrigued (if also apprehensive) as to what the filmmaker has cooked up with his latest sequel to a landmark work of horror -- "The Exorcist: Believer."
Much like Green and producer Jason Blum's "Halloween" movies, "Believer" hopes to rejuvenate a flailing horror franchise that has gone in some rather bizarre directions since the '70s classic that started it all. The only difference? This time, Green isn't wiping the slate clean by removing the previous installments from the canon, the sequels and prequel (prequels?) alike. "I like all the 'Exorcist' movies," Green told Total Film in May 2022, adding...

Not every TV and film production will stop amid dual strikes by SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America. A host of projects stopped work after writers went on strike against media companies for better pay, streaming data transparency and protections against artificial intelligence (among other issues), and many more have paused since actors walked out on July 14.
There are exceptions, however. SAG-AFTRA’s strike rules allow for work on productions covered under different agreements, and the union can grant waivers or sign interim agreements with independent productions. Below is a list of TV shows and films that fall under those designations; this story will be updated as more productions earn waivers.
