It’s almost time for the Fantasia Film Festival! North America’s premiere genre festival has become the place to be if you’re a horror aficionado, and as a proud Montrealer, I get a kick out of the fact that it all takes place in my home city. I’ve been attending the festival for many years, and I always end up seeing some incredible movies. Last year’s Fantasia featured the Canadian premiere of what’s probably the best horror movie of the last year or so – Late Night With The Devil, and this year’s program seems certain to be another winner, with Fantasia announcing the first wave of titles today.

On the 9th day of Creepmas, the aliens and tech run amok to stuff the socks with horror. Science fiction’s broad umbrella covers everything from the future to outer space to alternate realities via technology. The unexplored terrain and concepts within sci-fi provide fertile ground for horror; what’s scarier than the unknown? Even worse, what happens when sci-fi horror invades the holidays? Sometimes, it means one bleak holiday. For other movies, it yields zany results.
The 12 Days of Creepmas continues on Bloody Disgusting, this time with 9 sci-fi horror movies that get a bit wild with the yuletide theme.
Keep track of the 12 Days of Creepmas here.

“The Beast Cop is Back” proclaims the posters for The Roundup. And if you’re wondering who the Beast Cop is, where he went or if this is another sequel to WolfCop, we’re talking about Ma Seok-do. And this is a sequel, to 2017’s The Outlaws, don’t worry, it has a standalone plot but after seeing this you’ll probably want to go back and watch it anyway.
Ma Seok-do and his captain Jeon Il-man have been sent to Ho Chi Minh City to pick up a suspect for extradition. That would seem a simple assignment, right? There’s just one question. Why would a fugitive in a country that doesn’t have an extradition treaty with Korea turn himself in?

I was probably one of about seven people that wasn’t enamoured with Wolf Cop. There’s a lot of love for it, but I just didn’t have the same blast with it that everyone else seemed to. That’s not to say it’s a bad film, I was mid festival, severely sleep deprived and in need of a good rest. So, when offered Lowell Dean’s latest piece, SuperGrid, I was eager to see if this was a one off. Seems that yes, it was.

One of my favorite parts of the Halloween season is listening to seasonal music, be it classics like “Grimm Grinning Ghosts” from Disney’s Haunted Mansion ride or familiar tracks from horror movies like Alice Cooper’s “He’s Back (The Man Behind the Mask)” from Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. Hell, I’ll even do deep cuts like Frank Vinci’s “Just What I’ve Been Looking For” from Sleepaway Camp or Gowan’s “Moonlight Desires,” most recently used in WolfCop. I’m lucky enough to have friends that make me Halloween mixes, too, giving me plenty to listen to all month long.
My new favorite Halloween album, though, is a little unconventional and a whole lot of fun. Sean Keller, a musician, actor, and screenwriter (Hulu’s All That We Destroy), has recorded the ultimate Halloween mix this year: The Killer Sounds of Halloween, 13 original songs from 13 fake bands.

After finding much success on the festival circuit during 2014 and 2015, both Lou Garou and his lycan alter ego WolfCop (played by Leo Fafard) have returned for the aptly named sequel, Another WolfCop, which recently screening during the 2017 Fantasia International Film Festival.
Daily Dead had the pleasure of catching up with writer/director Lowell Dean over the weekend, and the Canadian filmmaker discussed the pressures of making a sequel, taking the ambitious route of making werewolf-centric indie horror movies where much of his budget goes towards special effects, and finding the balance between the humor of the world of WolfCop with characters and a story that audiences will want to invest in emotionally.
Congratulations on getting to come back and make a sequel to WolfCop. I'm curious, was it harder to do a second movie than it was doing the first one? Sometimes I think, "Oh, the first one has to be the harder one,...

Another WolfCop? Yes. “Another” means that director Lowell Dean’s howlin’ mad midnighter is indeed a sequel, and a ravenous one at that. Back again is Leo Fafard, playing Canada’s favorite donut-scarfing Lycan lawman; a fluffy beast whose moonlight methods are animalistic to the max. Criminals find themselves torn limb from limb with WolfCop once again […]

Lowell Dean’s 2014 film WolfCop is part of a recent wave of low budget Canadian genre films that includes movies like Hobo with a Shotgun, Manborg and The Void. Hit and miss though they may be, you can’t help but want to support them… which may explain why there is now a WolfCop sequel on […]...

Lowell Dean‘s 2014 Canadian horror comedy WolfCop, which focused on an alcoholic police officer who turns into a werewolf, apparently performed well enough to warrant a sequel. In keeping with the movie’s tongue-in-cheek approach to…well, just about everything, the second film in the series is called Another WolfCop, and its trailer and poster highlight the fact that it’s providing more of what fans wanted […]

The Canadian horror comedy Wolfcop turned out to be a pretty big deal for Canadian genre cinema last year. So much so that director Lowell Dean and his crew are busy prepping for the sequel. The production funds have already been raised. What Dean and company want to do now is raise funds so they can bring in some kick-ass guest spots. They want to Breed the Wolfpack, as they say, and boost the star power of the sequel. This is because the fans of the film have been asking for it since the first film began production. So they have launched an indiegogo campaign to raise funds to offer one or more stars a spot in the film. Here is how it works. Depending on what...

I gotta tell ya (and have!), creeps: one of my current fav-o-rite flicks is Wolfcop! That’s why I was pleased as pestilent punch when the film’s star, ol’ Wc himself Leo Fafard dropped by the Crypt o’ Xiii for a lil’ chillin’ chat!
Famous Monsters. So Leo, how did you come to take on the role of the long tooth of the law, Wolfcop?
Leo Fafard. I got involved with the project early on, actually before it was even written. I was shooting a music video Lowell Dean [the die-rector of Wolfcop, ‘natch – Xiii] was directing, and I played the part of the werewolf, although a completely different werewolf than Wolfcop. More of a nerdy professor type werewolf. And by the end of the music video, Lowell must have been somewhat impressed by the way I played a werewolf, and he approached me at the end of the video and asked me if I...
