Joan Vassos is set to appear this fall as the first-ever Golden Bachelorette. Vassos is familiar with the world of dating competitions. She appeared in Gerry Turner’s season of The Golden Bachelor and was a fan favorite before self-eliminating in week three. While Vassos is optimistic about her chances of finding love on The Golden Bachelorette, fans shouldn’t get prepped for another golden wedding. Vassos recently revealed wedding bells aren’t in her near future, despite being the lead on a dating show that regularly ends in engagement.
Joan Vassos isn’t getting married immediately after ‘The Golden Bachelorette’
Joan Vassos is excited about the prospect of finding her perfect match. Still, The Golden Bachelorette fans shouldn’t expect to see the mother of four and educator walk down the aisle on national TV just months after her season airs. Unlike Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist, Vassos is in no rush to marry.

With “The Golden Bachelor” remaining one of the network’s top shows among Adults 18-49, ABC announced in February that it had greenlit a spinoff titled “The Golden Bachelorette,” which will air Wednesday nights this fall.
While presenting its 2024-2025 fall primetime schedule, the network announced that Joan Vassos, the 61-year-old grandmother and school administrator from Rockville, Maryland, the fan favorite from “The Golden Bachelor,” who self-eliminated herself from the competition when a medical concern with her daughter arose, will seek a second chance at finding love as the first-ever Golden Bachelorette.
Despite other challenges she’s faced along the way – including the heartbreaking loss of her husband after 32 years of marriage – ABC notes that Vassos remains “an embodiment of strength and grace as a devoted mother of four, grandmother of three, and school administrator while finding solace in the music of Elton John, spending time with her dog, and cooking.

ABC recently unveiled its 2024-2025 primetime schedule, which sees the network airing just five scripted series, including new dramas “High Potential” and “Doctor Odyssey.” “Grey’s Anatomy” will shift one hour to the 10:00 p.m. slot on Thursdays while the network will mark the return of “The Wonderful World of Disney” to its schedule.
ABC
“Dancing with the Stars” will be moving to Tuesday nights so that the network can air consistent programming that won’t be interrupted by “Monday Night Football” broadcasts scheduled for select Mondays. Said Monday night programming options will be announced at a later date.
Following “Dancing with the Stars” will be “High Potential,” written by Oscar-nominated Drew Goddard and based on the popular French series. The crime procedural stars Kaitlin Olson as Morgan, a single mom with an exceptional mind whose unconventional knack for solving crimes leads to an unusual and unstoppable partnership with a by-the-book seasoned detective.

The Golden Bachelorette star Joan Vassos isn’t letting The Golden Bachelor divorce rain on her parade.
Joan was named the next Bachelor Nation star at the Disney Upfronts earlier this week.
She seemed a longshot to take over for Gerry Turner after self-eliminating in Episode 3 of the premiere season of The Golden Bachelor.
But her crowning has been a pleasant surprise for those who can’t wait to watch the premiere season of The Golden Bachelorette.
Now that Joan has been named, Bachelor Nation is clamoring to know more, including her opinions on many hot subjects — including Gerry and Theresa Nist’s shock divorce news.

Golden Bachelor star Joan Vassos was named the historic first Golden Bachelorette. Is Gerry Turner’s runner-up, Leslie Fhima, bitter over the snub? Or is she responsible for the network choosing someone else?
Golden Bachelor Runner-Up Passed Over For Spinoff
Many people thought Leslie Fhima was a shoo-in for the first-ever Golden Bachelorette. After all, she was one of the two finalists on the first season of The Golden Bachelor.
Viewers felt empathy for her. Especially as they watched her heart break when Gerry Turner told her she wasn’t the right one for him. Whose heart didn’t hurt when Leslie said she’s never the right one for anyone?
Leslie Fhima/Credit: YouTube
She clearly wasn’t the right one for ABC to choose to lead the inaugural season of the Golden Bachelorette. That honor went to Joan Vassos, the 61-year-old widow who left the show early due to a family crisis.

Gerry Turner’s The Golden Bachelor aired on Thursdays, and Joan Vassos’ Golden Bachelorette will air on Wednesdays on ABC. That’s just one difference for the new show. Read on to find out more.
The Golden Bachelorette Gets 90-Minute Episodes
The Golden Bachelor episodes lasted one hour, but for Joan Vassos, the episodes will air for 90 minutes. Of course, one big difference is the age of the contestants. Joan Vassos is 61 years old and will be looking to date men more her age.
Joan Vassos self-eliminated – Golden Bachelor – ABC
It’s not unusual for Bachelor Nation to cast a previous contestant from another show. For example, Bachelor leads often come from The Bachelorette. Once again, that is true with Joan Vassos.

Even though The Golden Bachelor viewers were calling for the likes of Susan Noles, Faith Martin, and Leslie Fhima as top contenders for the role, there has been a lot of excitement after Joan was announced.
That includes The Golden Bachelor star Gerry Turner, who immediately posted about The Golden Bachelorette despite having become a Bachelor Nation villain after filing for...

ABC announced the name of the first Golden Bachelorette four months before the spinoff premieres this fall. Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner has some words of wisdom to share with her. Keep reading to find out his advice.
First Look At Golden Bachelorette
ABC dropped its fall TV schedule and it had a few bombshells. The first season of The Golden Bachelorette will air on Wednesdays instead of the traditional Monday nights. Additionally, the episodes will be 90 minutes compared to The Golden Bachelor‘s one-hour episodes last fall.
But that’s not all. Hours after releasing the schedule, the network dropped something even bigger: the name of the first Golden Bachelorette.
Joan Vassos will get a second chance at finding love. The widow was a contestant on Gerry Turner’s season. Despite being a front-runner, she self-eliminated in Week 3 to be with her daughter, who had recently had a baby.

Jimmy Kimmel is, without fail, the highlight of TV’s upfronts week every year; 2024 was no exception.
The “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host left no stone unturned in his annual profane and ruthless takedown of everything Disney (and everyone else in Hollywood) wants to sell to advertisers. This year that included the new Disney+ bundle with Hulu and Max, Netflix finally kissing the asses of said advertisers, the AMPTP, “The Golden Bachelor,” and finding a catchy new name for that sports-streaming service Disney is working on with Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery.
He started things off with a huge announcement: Bob Iger’s successor at Disney as CEO is… an artificially intelligent Bob Iger clone. AIger.
“Bob isn’t going anywhere ever again anywhere,” Kimmel said. “We uploaded him to the cloud so that we can live in peace and prosperity under the watchful AI of the Iger. All hail AIger!

“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host Jimmy Kimmel once again shared the Disney upfronts stage on Tuesday, providing his zingers in person for advertisers and media buyers at the programming presentation for the first time in five years. That’s because last year Kimmel didn’t attend due to the Hollywood WGA strikes. And in 2022, he was in New York — but had to be beamed in to do his routine after testing positive for Covid. (The 2021 and 2020 upfronts were virtual because of the pandemic.)
“Two years ago, I couldn’t be here in person because I had Covid. And last year, I couldn’t be here because of the writer’s strike. And this year I couldn’t think of a third excuse,” Kimmel said. “I tried diarrhea on the plane, but I guess they get that all the time now.”

It’s official! ABC has finally announced who will be the star for the premiere season of The Golden Bachelorette.
We’ve been waiting for months for this news, as the woman-led spinoff was announced on the heels of The Golden Bachelor finale, and fans were left to speculate about who might take the starring role.
It’s safe to say that the announcement comes as a big surprise, as many women were considered fan favorites.
They included Susan Noles, who seems to be everywhere following her stint on The Golden Bachelor and after she acted as officiant for Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s wedding.
Others that were top contenders included Faith Martin, who came in third place, and runner-up Leslie Fhima
But none of those women will be starring in The Golden Bachelorette this fall.

Joan Vassos is getting another shot at love.
The 61-year-old school administrator has been cast as the inaugural Golden Bachelorette, ABC announced Tuesday during Disney’s Upfront presentation.
Vassos was an early frontrunner during Gerry Turner’s season of The Golden Bachelor. She unfortunately had to voluntarily leave the show during Week 3 due to a family emergency. During the Women Tell All, Vassos admitted that she felt there was some unfinished business between her and Turner. At times, she said it was hard not to wonder what may have happened if she’d stayed.
ABC also announced that The Golden Bachelorette, which debuts this fall, will air on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. Et/Pt before new episodes of Abbott Elementary.

“The Golden Bachelor was probably the television event last year,” ABC TV Group President Craig Erwich said in an interview with Deadline on the day of the Disney upfront presentation. The Bachelor offshoot was so successful, it spawned a highly rated special, The Golden Wedding.
But just three months after Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist tied the knot, they filed for divorce having never lived together. The controversy raised questions about the future of the franchise whose previously ordered spinoff, The Golden Bachelorette, premieres this fall.
The Golden Bachelor is not going anywhere, Erwich suggested.
“I think Golden Bachelor is a show that’s about finding love at a later age. It’s incredibly root-able, it’s aspirational, and that franchise and those values extend to a lot of different people and a lot of different stories. So we’re very dedicated to this franchise,” he said.

Well, if you had tried to get us to guess the ABC 2024-25 fall season announcement, we couldn’t have predicted much of it.
There are new shows sprinkled throughout, but ABC is going almost full reality, which is a choice.
Let’s see what we’ve got to work with here.
Two new shows will interest TV Fanatics: High Potential, starring Kaitlin Olson, which was delayed due to the strikes, and Doctor Odyssey, starring Joshua Jackson as a cruise ship doctor.
High Potential gets a 10/9c slot on Tuesdays after Dancing with the Stars.
Despite the relationship disaster of The Golden Bachelor, ABC is dedicating an hour and a half weekly to The Golden Bachelorette while snuggling award-winning comedy Abbott Elementary between that and a docuseries called Scamanda.
Thursdays find Doctor Odyssey after 9-1-1 and before Grey’s Anatomy.
And TV Fanatic favorites The Rookie and Will Trent? Saved for midseason.

ABC is doubling down with Ryan Murphy on Thursday nights. The Alphabet network revealed a fall 2024 schedule on Tuesday that features the Murphy’s “9-1-1” and newcomer “Doctor Odyssey” on Thursday nights.
The move now turns the night — long the home for Shonda Rhimes’ hit “Tgit” franchises, into a bit of a “Tgim” — “Thank God It’s Murphy” — and shifts “Grey’s Anatomy” to 10 p.m.
Also, the network revealed that it is going with an “Abbott Elementary” island on Wednesdays, sandwiched between a 90-minute format for “The Golden Bachelorette” and then the unexpected, previously unannounced true crime ABC News docuseries “Scamanda.”
But don’t fret for “Abbott,” says Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich. He tells Variety that after the success of “The Golden Bachelor” in the fall, lead-in from “The Golden Bachelorette” will “position it to continue to garner both audience as well as the critical claim that it so deserves.

Bachelor Nation was shocked by the news of The Golden Bachelor couple Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist‘s split after just three months of marriage. After all, the couple had only been married for three months when they decided to call it off.
Ever since there’s been a lot of speculation about why they opted to walk away from each other so quickly despite them giving a reason in their GMA interview.
Even Ben Higgins weighed in on what he heard was the real reason for the breakup, though he quickly qualified his statement by claiming that it was just a rumor.
