very bad - one of the worst tv shows out there
acsr199221 June 2023
This is one of the worst tv shows I've ever seen. It has a "good story" but it wasn't delivered correctly. This could have been 6 episodes maximum, 24 is just excessive. The story just drags and drags with new characters that don't really add much. A lot of scenes were completely unnecessary, adding nothing to the story. Yeni's acting performance is just awful. A lot of characters could have been omitted and it would have been better. I couldn't continue watching it after episode 12. It's very very hard to watch, there was a point i which I was very confused as to what was happening, I had no idea what the plot was. I don't recommend it.

It's hard to watch.
bygkh-6947919 June 2023
The main chick Yani acting needs help. Her expressions, her gestures her everything lol... needs help. The show seems to go on and on by episode getting no where! A lot of people roles in this series could have been omitted. The whole seria could have been over in episode One... but nooo they drag it out to a complete mess... the show drags to the point where it's hard to watch and stupid things start to happen because they need to make episodes. 24 episodes of complete stupidity.... They talk about this "Indian" chick Yani. But honestly she looks Hispanic/Mexican. I'm no racist AT ALL. However I wish they could have found a better Surrogate because someone about her is not sexy or appealing to the eye.

Well worth watching
jonnoble-769912 July 2023
This is a long series - 24 episodes. I have read a number of reviews here and acknowledge some of the weaknesses - not well known actors, some scripting and storyline difficulties etc. However, this series is well worth watching. Obviously some reviewers have NOT watched the series - the plot does NOT talk about identical twins, rather it is dizygotic pregnancy (look it up!!). Here the story touches on issues such as racism and prejudice in Mexico, the role of indigenous persons, power and abuse by the elite, indigenous culture, sexual identity, class distinction, greed and many other classic themes. And it does so very well. I agree, it is probably too long and could be shortened, but 'The Surrogacy' is well worth watching.

Worst acting ever!
notsurelegit21 June 2023
Terrible acting! They rush through scenes but it doesn't matter. You will likely turn the channel just as fast anyway. The actors and not authentic and the story line is abysmal. Men try to kidnap a lady while she's riding in the car with her dad. He stills the gun and kills one kidnapper and wounds the other. Instead of leaving the daughter tries to resuscitate the kidnapper I guess so he can try again, smh.

The accents are off and the characters are all way too helpful like the friend that wants to sell her business and give up her life to bail her friend's dad out of jail. I need friends like that.

Good Series
maruma-1117524 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I don't understand the bad reviews. The series is not that bad. It's the typical Mexican novela with the rich boy/poor girl relationship.

Those that are hung up on the split embryo/twin element obviously didn't watch the whole thing. A split embryo doesn't always result in a multiple birth. Early on, Carlos discovers that his daughter has Yeni's hereditary birthmark and it is later revealed that the girl is Yeni's biological daughter conceived when she had sex with Carlos. The boy is the product of the surrogacy. They are not really twins. It's called superfetation.

The actors did a good job. I like Leticia Calderon and she was great as Nora.

As a native Spanish speaker, I watched it with the original audio.

Missed opportunities and inaccurate science
EN879824 June 2023
For a series that felt on one level like a cautionary tale about surrogacy, you would think the writers would at least have done some basic research( middle school biology). There was one continuous comment about the embryo splitting to twins which could only result in identical twins..but the twins are obviously not identical( a boy and a girl). The characters discussing this would have had basic knowledge of this. I ended up fast forwarding through most of the episodes but gave up after I realized after getting to 10 that I wasn't even halfway through. The series needs some serious editing to make it into a tolerable cheesy soap opera. On the positive, unlike other reviewers, I did like the lead actress. There was some other side plots/discussions about indigenous culture and racism that could have been interesting but given my wariness of the writers credibility on other topics, I couldn't trust them on this either. In summary, lots of missed opportunities.

Terrible acting and more
mnich-158-56645524 June 2023
Absolutely terrible acting and even worse dubbing into English. They really should have consulted a medical professional upon writing the story as the story starts off saying 1 embrio split into twins and became a boy and girl baby. Most people know this is impossible. It's not possible for twins from same embrio to be anything but identical twins (same sex) this plot annoyed the hell out of me. And many other simple mistakes that a quick Google search could clarify. Also they go to a doctor office and complain they were not seen within 2 seconds of arrival. I feel the writers of this show were a bunch of children.

Mostly a train wreck but it was difficult to look away.
dnw-9847924 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This started off intriguing, and quickly went in a direction I did not expect. The acting was not great, especially from the leads. Watching the FL attempt to cry and express anguish was painful to watch, and the ML wasn't much better. The producers really should've worked harder to find dubbing actors who could actually act with their voices because this also took away from the series. Most of the dubbing was flat and therefore had very little emotions coming from the characters' voices.

Moreover, the characters in this weren't the sharpest tools in the shed. Most especially the leads Yeni and Carlos. I could sort of give the former a pass because she was young and naive. However, Carlos was older and more experienced but spent most of the series going in circles and unable to figure out the simplest mysteries going on his life.

Additionally, he was an awful husband. He cheats on his wife with Yeni, the surrogate, but thinks saying he's sorry will make it all good. He sleeps with Yeni, taking her virginity (without even realizing it mind you) and the minute it's over he tells her that she makes him feel as if he can be himself. Even though they've known each other all of two seconds. Then follows that up by saying he misses his wife. Trash. SMH. He and Yeni had absolutely no chemistry. Their romance felt forced, which subsequently undermined any credibility to what I'm guessing was supposed to be their epic "love" story.

The matriarch of the main family, Carlos' mother, was absolutely awful. She was selfish, narcissistic and bordering on sociopathic. She was not a villain that viewers would love to hate. She was simply loathsome. Her evilness was oftentimes so over the top and without nuance that it destroyed what little coherence the show sometimes had.

Did not understand why Carlos had to babysit Yeni throughout her pregnancy. He was rich. Surely he could've paid someone to watch over her who could keep things confidential until she gave birth. I didn't understand why Yeni didn't just give the twin Carlos' family abandoned up for adoption being that she didn't want kids anyway. It certainly would've made her life easier. It didn't make sense that Julia would go to such extremes as kidnapping and assault etc. To find a surrogate for her baby. Surely there was a better ways to get what she wanted. Maybe even an underground network for finding women who would volunteer to be a surrogate. The pharmaceutical plot was so convoluted and over the top that it became silly.

I did find it interesting learning how surrogacy had been illegal in Mexico and thus is severely frowned upon. I also found it interesting but not surprising, how racist the white Mexicans were towards those who were deemed as native Mexicans. Colorism was a huge theme in this which was also very interesting.

The ending of the series was just as ridiculous as the journey throughout . After all the hell these people had put each other through, and I mean hell. Life altering lies, aggravated assaults, murders, kidnappings etc. It was absolutely unfathomable that they could , in the end, come together as friends, lovers and colleagues to create their own little pseudo happy family. Please. RME.

This series could at times be entertaining. I'll give it that, but overall it was a hot mess of plot holes, contrivances, ridiculous storylines and dumb characters.

Long drawn out
MrsB2326 June 2023
24 episodes of this drivel, I have no idea how you can watch 24 episodes and still not really fully understand what happened and more importantly why!

The description and the start appeared promising, however it started going down hill pretty soon.

Terrible acting, the worst being Yeni and then her son when he is a young adult. Far too many characters which makes it confusing.

Not sure why but Yeni doesn't have much of a liability factor - perhaps its because she took someone else's husband and came up smelling of roses as a result.

The ending just seemed absolutely ludicrous.

Just awful!

Story line failed key characters
lindilandman25 June 2023
I think its a good story line so I feel I wanted to watch till the end however it dragged on way to long. Sadly the writers made Yeni seem totally stupid which was very frustrating to watch. Characters all kept to many secrets without sharing with other key characters making the whole story go in circles. Also this story is dragged out in 24 episodes adding unnecessarily scenes which seems to be inckuded almost to drag out the time. This series definitely creates emotions for the watchers. Emotions of frustration and irritation. Unfortunate because it could of been a really well done series with a fine tuned well edited script.

I made it to episode 6 and gave up after
laura-murgia21 November 2023
I kept watching episode after episode in the hope that the next one would be better. But it definitely didn't. So I gave up after episode 5. The storyline and storytelling is incredibly weak and all the episodes I watched felt dragging. It could have been great if the storytelling and the storyline was clear and the acting was good. It felt like there were too many characters that had a big part in this. I usually finish movies and series that I watch, even if they are not that good, to give it a chance. But this one had 24 episodes! Way too many if you ask me. For the people that want to finish the series, I hope it gets better! But something tells me, it won't.

the worst actors
The worst actors ever !! Boring, slow , predictable. Yeni and Carlos :they never show expressions at all !! Specially Carlos.

This series depicts indigenous communities as dumb groups which is far from reality. They didn't spend much on sceneries. The main villain is such a famous actress . I wonder how come she accepted a cheap series like this one. The voice pitches of the actors while crying is just annoying . As I mention lack of real topics, good acting, landscapes ( Mexico 🇲🇽 is too beautiful ), a nonsense plot , and a villain who just stays in two places the whole time 😃. I didn't finish this series I struggled to watch the whole.

Not worth the time it took to watch
kaykakfs17 August 2023
It was so hard to watch. It had potential. But the art of good storytelling is to tell it in as few words as possible. In this case eliminating some of the characters and subplots (if you can call them that) would clean it up and tighten 24 long, drawn out episodes into six or eight tops. There was so much going on and most of it didn't matter. The saddest thing of all is that it was very shallow, despite the length, I didn't really care about any of the characters. None of them were believable. There were no depth. None of the hyped up drama drew me in and the lackluster outcome offered no satisfaction.

Mumbled storyline
momohteju12 July 2023
It seems that they ran out of storyline, then they decided to form a story like a ten year old child. There's no connection between yeni and Carlos, and I m sorry to say this, they would have used a more attractive lady for the role of yeni. Also there's a lot of loops holes in the story. At some point I didn't understand what they were doing, my advice is that you should watch it on the speed of 1.25 or 1.5. Though I must commend Nora and Julia, they acted their roles well, Roberto acts reluctantly, he seems not to enjoy his role. Yeni' s acting got better and also looked better towards the end of the show.

Why?
nikisarmast5 August 2023
I understand the intention of the writer. Convincing the world indigenous are good people who are being abused for centuries but this works the other way But they ruined the future of acting for the actress (Yeni). The exact same thing happened with Ugly Betty, At least she was smart.

Instead she could be a specialist in the company revealing the secrets about the side effects of the drug which cost the life of her dear ones?

Easy!

Why they want to convince her being attractive ?! And why every thing in these cheap series is black and white she is human and creating an angle charecter is just funny by the way.

Watched it but hated the storyline
garnet-0418714 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So many stupid decisions made by various characters in this series. Nora is a ridiculous woman . Such cruelty within the family - how she treats her daughter. What her daughter does to Julia and Carlos when they are trying to have a child. Carlos and Julia kept Tessa away from Nora but the girl had such a close relationship with her grandmother that she became just as rude and bigoted as her? Yeni doesn't want to hear the truth and ends up abandoning her daughter (when given chances to learn the truth) to protect the son and is so judgemental of Julia? I found this series frustrating to watch. Ridiculous how Carlos can't see his mother's true colours. I had it playing in the background as I did other things.
