I am one of those cynical nerds from the 3rdish maybe 2nd world country now. And we all look at the USA as the land of opportunity.
I am glad that this docuseries kind of shows what I already knew: there is no shortcuts to success. I just didn't expect that Americans believed their own pitch to immigrants as much as immigrants.
Let me explain, to succeed in America is basically: finish highschool, find a job, don't have kids before you're married. If you can do these then you are likely to be like Elba, a Dominican immigrants who movied to the US with little money, no English skill and the determination to set some roots in the new world, not for fun, not for clout, not for the clicks just to achieve.
And we can see that she managed to achieve it! She is married, has a daughter, has dogs, is in good health. All of that because she worked and didn't think about social media and everyone else.
In turn we have everyone else in the episode who has their own problems that seem pretty insignificant compared to Elba's and I am here wondering: why? Why do need to look at social media and dream about a life you aren't working towards? Why are you wasting so much time?
I can understand when people ask for more money. Life is hard and you have to work towards something. At the same time, I think that a CEO doesn't waste their time on social media when they run a company.
So why should their employees ask for money and time to spend on social media instead of investing in themselves?
