Only romance in the building
harineem-209-52548831 August 2023
This is getting worse. If last episode has just 5 mins of sleuthing, this had nothing. Have the writers completely lost the plot.

The whole episode is on the 3 leads having dates or breakups. The murder investigation has completely gone to the background. The series was never meant to be a character study of a young girl and two old men reviving their careers. But thats what Season 3 is turning about to be. Meryl Streep is charming but her charms cannot hide the absence of a credible plot line if there is one. We are also hardly seeing the building and its characters which was the highlight of the other two seasons.

Who did you fall in love with?
santipe-9067029 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Mabel dines with Tobert, Oliver goes out with Loretta, and Charles is seriously considering if his girlfriend is the killer.

Oliver, by the end of the episode, has serious doubts about Loretta, because she seems to have been obsessed with Ben for a long time now, which adds to the fact that she openly hated him.

Charles ends up convincing himself Joy isn't really the killer, but by admitting he proposed on accident, he ends up killing his relationship.

Tobert and Mabel suspect Ben's understudy, Jonathan, who met a shady doctor in a fancy restaurant. Mabel, out of the three main characters, is the only one whose love interest isn't/wasn't a suspect. The documentarian seems to be a nice guy but he's definitely hiding something.

Ah, Love!
Prismark1014 November 2023
Episode five was all about love actually. Charles finds himself accidentally engaged to marry Joy. A prospect that does not fill his heart with joy.

Luckily his stunt double Shazz turns up. Charles problem is that he is averse to enjoying himself.

Oliver is looking forward to his date with Loretta but loses a tooth on an overcooked pork chop. Both are clearly nervous as they have not dated for a while.

Oliver does find out that both he and Loretta have moved in similar circles over the years. They just never crossed each other's path.

Mabel ends up going on a date with Tobert. She thought he had a lead, he just wanted to date her.

There were drips of information about Ben's murder but it was secondary here. Even now anyone can be a suspect.

Still with the murder podcast taking a back seat. This was still a fun episode. Just not something you can get your teeth into.

Warning: Spoilers
When you have professionals like Meryl Streep and Martin short I think this show just thinks they can do just about anything and it won't matter, but while their scenes were decent, it is still a little underwhelming. The chemistry is just not quite there yet.

I am not sure what to make of this season, but it just doesn't feel like it is working. There isn't enough going on and I think we need to see more of the play, either before Ben's death or after, to really dive in.

It is an easy watch, but it also feels like it drags on too long. Mabel did not need yet another new love interest this season either.

Just Keeps Getting Better!
stan_c29 August 2023
I was worried that the a third season might be one too many. No worries needed. The writing, acting, and music keep being great. I love this show.

I'm not going to comment on the three main sleuths other than to say they are great together. The big thing for me about S3 is the addition of the new cast members, including Meryl Streep (Loretta) and Andrea Martin (Joy). I love the interaction between them. Charles's relationship with Joy. Oliver's with Loretta. Loretta singing "Look for the Light" in E3 is amazing and she continues to glow in E4. The acting. The writing. The music. They combine to make this one of the best ever.

Date Night
Hitchcoc5 September 2023
Three relationships are explored here. Oliver is head over heels with the Meryl Streep character, Loretta. He is finally pressured into asking her out. The results are quite interesting. Once again, individual interactions are also part of the gathering of clues for the murder of the actor in question. The show does a nice job of introducing possibilities and having them dismissed. Second, Charles has mistakenly asked Joy to marry him. It is in one of his white out things. A tube of lipstick has been found near the crime scene and it belongs to her. And Mabel goes out with Tobert and they hang out at a night club where some strange things are going on with another cast member. I do agree, I would like to see more work on the case and less bizarre stuff.

Ah I love this show

Warning: Spoilers
In episode 5 of OMITB's Season 2, the New York brand shines brightly, reflecting the city's moods and palettes. The "love theme" is reflective of NY's finest indulgences and the "not-so-great" parts, with each protagonist embroiled in romantic entanglements. The trio were barely in a room together brainstorming the murder, which is disappointing. However, the episode provides intriguing clues for the rest of the season. Oliver, Charles, and Mabel's expressions are all about love, with Oliver focusing on a date with Loretta and Charles focusing on a "promising lead." Joy ignores Charles, making herself busy with her aquarium and running away. Sazz Pataki, Charles' stunt double, also appears, as she has been called as an understudy to Charles for the play. The episode doesn't conjure up the traditional titillation we typically expect from the show. Joy leaves the apartment upset at Charles' accusations and leaves with Sazz to figure out his life situation. Charles admits he has trouble reconciling the fact that Joy might be the murderer, which Sazz coined "MGDS" - Murderous Girlfriend Derangement Syndrome. She plays a quick-fire quiz with Charles to diagnose what is bothering him, and she determines that Charles is afraid of "joy," i.e., being happy. When Joy returns home, Charles apologizes and clarifies how the lipstick got there, validating Kimber's claims of Ben trying to hide a "big red mark" on his face. Charles believes Joy because he was the one who gave Ben a punch in the face. However, the clouds remain dark for Charles' relationship as Joy gets upset when she learns everyone knows about the lipstick but her. Charles does not favor Joy and finds the worst possible time to tell her about the inadvertent marriage proposal, prompting Joy to call off the engagement and leave the apartment. Mabel and Tobert share a more conventional date, with Tobert revealing his suspicion of Jonathan, Ben's understudy and Howard's boyfriend. They see Jonathan meeting up with Ben's doctor, Dr C. Mabel puts his name up on the "murder mystery" soft board at her apartment, and they share a kiss before having sex. Oliver and Loretta's date goes poorly, with their rough patches due to each other's awkwardness around the situation. As the evening goes on, they get comfortable in each other's presence, but Loretta's anxiousness ensures that the food is hard as a rock, and Oliver is down one tooth. Loretta takes Oliver on a cruise and shares a family tradition of throwing her teeth overboard to make a wish. They share a romantic evening smoking weed, and Loretta reveals her fight with Ben backstage, which led to Charles punching Ben. She also mentions that Ben's brother/manager Dickey disliked him. Oliver kisses Loretta passionately, and they return home for sex. As Loretta leaves, Oliver finds an entire diary on the bookshelf that proves Loretta was obsessed with Ben, filled with photos and newspaper clippings. Oliver finds this diary to be a perfect example of a stalker fan's playbook from episode 2. The story highlights the importance of family and love in overcoming challenges and overcoming obstacles. In Only Murders in the Building Season 3 Episode 5, the plot continues with three parallel storylines, each with their own suspects. Joy, a potential suspect, is revealed as a potential suspect, and Charles is unwilling to discuss it. The episode features a prime subplot where Charles talks to Joy about her lipstick in Ben's backstage room, but digging the grave uncovers worms, making Charles appear unreliable. The significance of the white room episode is beautifully integrated. The other two main characters, Mabel and Tobert, are exploring their romantic interests without sidelining the murder mystery. They discover a mysterious doctor who treated Ben and is now a suspect in the case. Oliver, a fan predicted, visits Loretta for a lunch date, but finds clues linking her obsession with Ben. He insults her, leading him to have a murder motive. Only Murders in the Building Season 3 Episode 5 is enjoyable due to its three parallel storylines and commendable production design and direction. The show takes a risky but exciting turn with one of its prime characters becoming more involved in the murder. As the episode progresses, things become more intense and fun for viewers. Overall, Only Murders in the Building Season 3 Episode 5 brings back the show's spirit and essence.

Date? Useless talks? Where is my murder?
AvionPrince168 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So im becoming a little bit bored by the structure of the episodes and how things are pretty classic:

We have a big lead from the previous (Joy a murderer?) But we immediately understand its a mislead and we just witness how slowly with a mise en scene a little bit forced that the suspicions will fall down and slowly a new suspect come into the lights: its Loretta. And now maybe Oliver is the one in danger. The humor become too much and Mabel and Tobert kiss (and maybe sex?) What a surprise! (Its ironic!). So its pretty predictable and now im wondering: is it Tobert maybe the killer? Is it that kind of guy that is an ally and slowly we discover he is the murderer?.

I dont really know but the humor still annoyed me and it lead to a mise en scene pretty forced and not natural. So yeah kind of disappointed. And that scene with Charles and the other women is kind of useless right? Why? Because he was the only guy alone? And they needed to make him busy? I dont really know. But yeah pretty disappointed for now. Need to see more.
