- A girl and boy. Brother and sister. Living in poverty and neglect. Lost in the woods. They see a house, rush toward it... it is magical. Full of good food, soft sheets, love and care. But in this house, danger lurks. And all they have is each other. The Brothers Grimm fairy tale Hansel and Gretel takes a modern, neorealistic twist in H&G.—Rebecca Gibson
- Krysstal Sinclair is a single mom to eight year old Gemma and six year old Harley. The kids love their mother. However, Krysstal pays more attention in trying to find a boyfriend to take care of her, than she does in taking care of her children, who she is not averse to leaving alone while she goes out on her dates. An incident with Garry, Krysstal's latest boyfriend, leads to Gemma and Harley being abandoned on a remote road by themselves late one evening, they needing to fend for themselves. They eventually stumble onto a farm owned and operated alone by a young man named Brendon. Outwardly compassionate, Brendon, who feeds and cleans the kids, is facing his own demons. The question then becomes if Gemma and Harley are any better off staying with Brendon than they were with their mother.—Huggo
