Overall good episode but Chenford spoiled it just a bit.

Warning: Spoilers
The A story was a good follow up from the finale and was paced well. It was pretty consistent with the rest of the show.

The B story with Bradford and Chen bothered me a bit. Bradford had to transfer because he can't work with Chen but now they're apparently allowed to ride together on a whim. On top of that, they turned a crime scene into a guessing game and caused evidence to be washed down a drain with zero repercussions. I get that it's just a show, but how about a semblance of consistency?

The final destination style scene with Nolan at the hangar was a bit goofy but that's kind of the heart of this show.

It was sweet to see Thorson save the day.

Bit of a Letdown after a Great S05 Cliffhanger

Warning: Spoilers
We kick off Season 6 right where Season 5 ended. Masked vigilantes are targeting our beloved squad and now we get to see the rest of the plan in action with the white collar villains at the end of the episode.

The problem is, after a quick prologue of sorts that gives us some good ol' shoot 'em up action, we are hit with a "Six Weeks Later" card. And six weeks later? Nolan is happily planning his wedding, the drama of which surrounded an alleged "last shift" curse-a belief that something will go irrevocably wrong in the final shift before an important event. Lots of little mishaps occur, but nothing wild like Bailey dying or anything that matters.

Did Thorsen make it? Yep. He's totally fine and back at work, and it looks like he might date his appointed psychologist. After being near death in the finale, the resolution on Thorsen was disappointing.

More disappointing is the contrived drama between Bradford and Chen. The writers har decided that after finally putting them together, this season will deal with manufactured drama between the two, largely due to-of course-a failure to communicate at even a base level. Lucy's actions seemed pretty out of character. I dislike drama because the show runners decided we needed drama.

This was OK, but it was a pretty run-of-the-mill Rookie episode that doesn't live up to what preceded it and resolves too many plot threads too quickly and easily.

Waste of Opportunity

Warning: Spoilers
They had a great setup at the end of last season. They start off with a shootout and chaos, then go back a short time later? It was a mess; severely disappointing. Uncovering the Federal Reserve robbery by a missed checkin of 17 seconds is lazy writing. Then, to time job six weeks later! Lazy writing! How many storylines could have been told over that time? And then, what's his name, Iceman, comes in with a gigantic six-week old baby that was obviously a doll during most of the shots. The Captain even said the criminals had enough money to leave and never be found, so why does one hang around L. A? Why does the "leader" fly back into the country?

I watch this for Nathan Fillion but that is barely a reason to continue with nonsensical, lazy writing. Have Malcolm Reynolds wake up on Serenity and tell the crew he had a crazy dream that he was a cop on an Alliance planet, and then end the show.

Getting more and more cringe
dreadnought-8288425 February 2024
This show's writing is getting so bad it's embarrassing. In "The Rookie" world if you're not a minority you can never do anything right. They even compared the "trauma" of giving birth by saying that a near death experience after getting shot is trivializing her experience. Nolan's boot, Juarez should never be a cop, she goes on in her work as as police officer with her feeling and her juju special power. I know cops can be superstitious That show as become so bad that it's almost a satire of what cops are, like an awful super trooper. I'm now sure that the writers of shows in the west can't write good television even if their lives depended on it. I just want good television again.

Now I remember why I didn't miss the show all autumn

The show has been going way down hill for a long time. This episode touched bases with all the "regulars" and their idiosyncrasies. Even Smitty put in an brief appearance. The cast is far to large and each seems to have say a sentence or two which doesn't advance the story. It used to be only slimy Wesley who was in every episode for no reason. This episode everyone had to crawl out of the woodwork. It is a cop show but there is far too much violence and throwbacks to old stories. Remind me again what's with the fake redheaded lawyer. The writers should focus on new stories and concentrate on a few main players per episode. Everyone doesn't have to put in two cents. The only high point is Officer Thorsen is back. Get rid of some of the others and concentrate on him. He is the best of the whole cast. Sorry Nathan, it is hard to tell you are supposed to be the star.

Bad JuJu???
gvdkzg19 March 2024
As already mentioned, the show has become a circus and it's going downhill faster than a clown on a bicycle.

Another useless, pointless and annoying character is Officer Juarez and her constant & incessant superstitious mumbo jumbo verbal diarrhoea!! I know she's just acting out the script written for her but it's awful and they need to dial up her dialogue or get her killed off.

The set pieces and action sequences are good and very well carried out, so there is at least one redeeming quality.

But please please get rid of the bad juju before this show is only remembered for this and nothing else.
