Quotes

  • Adam West : I'm peaking this morning. We're all peaking. It's like tweeting. We're peaking and twating.

  • Adam West : My dad worked so hard as a farmer. The work on the farm, in which I was involved at a very early age, taught me resilience and to realize how hard it all was.

  • Adam West : In a small town, like Walla Walla, your parents put you in the movies, in the seat, every Saturday morning. And when you're very young and you're watching, whoa, all those cowboys and people on the screen, you just begin to realize there must be a bigger, wonderful world out there. I was somewhat caught up in the fantasies that Hollywood constantly produced.

  • Adam West : My mother had a scholarship in Hollywood. She actually ended up back home on the ranch with my dad and me, because she was pregnant with my brother and she never left again. I think she felt saddened that she hadn't followed through with her talent and her dream. My mother struggled with alcohol for a long time and I found myself taking care of her. I think it allowed me to really acknowledge the world that she had been denied and maybe, I tell myself, that somehow, I'll find that world for her.

  • Adam West : It was so corny. But, I think, you see these things in the old movies. They said, "You're really going to Hollywood and you're going to become a movie star?" I was so naive. I said, "Yes. Yes, I am. I'm going to become a movie star - I think."

  • Adam West : They wanted to shoot the beginning of the movie. I had to get on my horse and ride across the plain, in the canyons, and ride toward a cave. I rode closer to the cave in the distance and suddenly this huge crowd of bats came flying out of the cave, all over the sky, darkening, passing me and I thought, "What in the hell?" It occurred to me maybe that was a little taste of what was to come.

  • Adam West : I'm doing what's called a Comic-Con Wizard World. Its very simple. I was hired to come in here and make an appearance and sign autographs and say hello to people... There are always some really strange people who love to wear costumes and they show up and, bless 'em, they're wonderful. Because, they do things, I think, in their hotel rooms that most people don't do.

  • Adam West : My relationship with the Bat fans is really good... They're very open, very nice to me... And to see what's in their eyes: lust, adoration. Oh, it - look, these fans, because of the Batman thing, they're wonderful.

  • Adam West : I asked to read the script. It was the pilot script for Batman. I read the script. I mean, I fell off my chair. It was so funny, to me. Thinking about how this could be done as a kind of a tribute, a homage to the Comics and, yet, make it funny for adults.

  • Adam West : Well, we began. I had a dressing trailer on the set and that first day I had to walk out for the first time in front of all these grown men and women as Batman in these strange tights. What can I do? I've got to become the character. Pull down the cap. I immediately become a kid again playing Batman. "You want to go play Batman and Robin? You want to play Batman?" These adults were believing at that moment that I was Batman! So, somehow, I pulled it off; but, it wasn't really me. It was the fact that they'd all read, grown-up with Batman and they knew, you know, what it was and what it should be and they saw me in the costume and, you know, it was the world of make believe we were in. So, they really accepted me as Batman. It was a test for me; because, it gave me the confidence, the feeling, that this will work.

  • Adam West : I'm telling you, to put up with that - terrible criticism and so on, and then to finally hear that you're trusted. It's a big deal for an actor.

  • Adam West : Art is a release of your impulses to create something.
