- A woman gets out of her shower and ends up getting stabbed in her bathroom.
Gibbs gets his hair cut as a TV news reporter Bart Crowley attributes the murder to the Dead Rose Slasher. Gibbs' barber Frankie is worried about his son Cameron, who's been acting strange since he got out of the Navy.
The Dead Rose Slasher sketch looks like his son. The murders started four years ago when Cameron was in college, then stopped for three years while he was in the Navy, and started when he came back home.
Frankie tells Gibbs that Cameron was thrown out of college because he was accused of date rape. The charges were dropped, but Frankie is worried because Cameron wasn't home on the nights of the last two murders. Gibbs offers to look into it to put Frankie's mind at ease.
At NCIS, Tony tells Probationary Agent Ned Dorneget that he has to take a newly re-instated probie test, the GS 11. Dorneget thought it wasn't given anymore, but Ziva says it's serious stuff.
The team pulls up surveillance of Lance Corporal Douglas Alexander driving off the base at Norfolk three days ago with a passenger. He stole over $120,000 from the office he was assigned to. Abby has ID'd the passenger as Melissa Tourney, a civilian.
The team tells Gibbs that Vance is looking for him, but Gibbs leaves.
At a crime scene of a Dead Rose attempted murder, Gibbs pumps the detective for info. They have no forensics, all they know is he's left handed. So is Cameron.
At NCIS, they've confirmed Melissa Tourney just flew to the Bahamas. Gibbs sends Tony and Dorneget to apprehend Anderson.
Gibbs visits Duckie in the morgue, to get him to ask his Metro ME friend if there's any information to rule out a suspect in the Dead Rose Slasher case.
McGee warns Dorneget not to let Tony pull rank on him on their trip.
Meanwhile, Ziva and McGee look into Cameron Dean. He left college after the date rape allegation in his sophomore year. He doesn't have a criminal record. Gibbs tells them why he's looking into it.
Vance drops by Gibbs' basement, bearing brownies. He got a call from chief of Metro detectives and knows Duckie talked to the Metro ME. Gibbs tells him it's not official, he's just checking something out for a friend.
McGee watches Cameron Dean at a packed bar. Ziva sidles up to him at the bar. He's taking pictures of a girl in the corner and isn't interested in Ziva at all. When the girl leaves, he follows. She fits the profile of the other victims.
Tony relaxes poolside in the Bahamas, on stakeout. Dorneget joins him. Melissa is hanging out by the pool, with no sign of Douglas Alexander.
At NCIS, McGee and Ziva report that Cameron followed the woman home last night, then went home.
Metro Detective Bill Shard drops in on Gibbs, demanding the name of his suspect. Gibbs gives him nothing.
Shard chats up Ziva on his way out.
Duckie reports to Gibbs that the two recent murders were the same as the ones three years ago and were committed by someone left handed, using the same knife for each. The ME told him all the victims were IV drug users, and he knows there's something they're not telling him.
On the beach, Dorneget shoots down Tony's attempts to senior agent boss him. Tony notices Melissa checking him out and goes to talk to her. She thinks Tony and Dorneget are a couple.
At NCIS, they watch a Crowley news report about another Dead Rose Slasher victim. Shard calls Gibbs to tell him he's picking up Cameron Dean as a suspect. He read Dean's name off Ziva's desk.
Gibbs tells McGee to pick Dean up first, has Ziva check that the victim isn't the woman Dean followed and he goes to talk to his barber.
Gibbs tells Frankie that they got careless and his son is going to be questioned.
In interrogation at NCIS, Gibbs talks to Cameron. He says he went to look for work at a construction company first thing in the morning. Gibbs asks why he was following the woman last night. Cameron says she's the wife of an old shipmate of his who worried she might be cheating. He followed her to make sure.
Detective Shard busts into the interrogation viewing room and demands NCIS release Cameron to his custody. When Gibbs joins them, Vance says Metro PD is sending over their evidence for NCIS review since they're backed up.
In the Bahamas, Dorneget is buried in his NCIS regulation manual studying for the GS 11 when he looks up and sees Douglas Anderson walk into the resort.
Melissa goes to meet him and Tony intercepts Anderson in the lobby. He turns to run and decks Dorneget. Anderson runs through the hotel and out onto the beach, where Tony and Dorneget manage to tackle him.
Vance asks Abby to help his daughter with her science project. She's thrilled.
Metro PD's forensic specialist Ramsey Boone, an old friend of Abby's, brings the Dead Rose Slasher evidence to the garage.
McGee confirms Cameron's Navy friend did ask him to follow his wife, and Ziva confirms Cameron did go to the construction site looking for work.
Tony and Dorneget bring Anderson back in custody and most of the money he stole.
Abby and Boone plow through the evidence in her lab. Gibbs drops by with Caf Pows. Abby reports that the Slasher left a plain silver wedding band in each of his victim's mouths and only three people knew: the Metro ME, Detective Shard and Boone.
Abby found the killer's DNA on a rose thorn left on the second victim. It doesn't belong to Cameron Dean; it belongs to Leo Winkler, a man who died after the early murders. The most recent ones were by a copy cat.
Dorneget is psyched they're working on the Dead Rose Slasher case; he taped all the news coverage to stay up on the case while they were gone.
Winkler was born to a drug addicted woman whose name was Rose, which is why he left roses on the victims. They explain why Dean couldn't have done it.
Dean asks Gibbs why they suspected him. They run into his dad and Cameron walks off angry that his dad thought he was a serial killer. Gibbs goes after him and urges him to talk to him.
Vance and Gibbs ask Shard who else could have known about the wedding rings in the victims' mouths. Shard realizes he gave a redacted report on the Slasher to the TV reporter covering the case, Bart Crowley.
McGee reviews the documents and finds Shard missed blacking out one reference to the wedding band in the file. Crowley didn't have any major stories during the three year murder lull, but now he's back in the spotlight. They go to check where he was yesterday morning.
Vance finds Dorneget studying for his GS 11 exam and tells him they haven't given that test for years. Ziva only went along because Tony pulled the same stunt with her and she studied for three months. Vance suggests they teach Tony a lesson.
Up in NCIS, Ziva finds Bart Crowley's car was parked two blocks away from yesterday's crime scene. His cell phone was off during the time of the murder. Dorneget volunteers that Crowley is left handed.
Shard goes to get a warrant and Dorneget leaves an important-looking inter office memo envelope on Tony's desk.
Crowley gives a report on the latest murder when Gibbs and Shard pull up and interrupt. They tell him about the copycat and that they just found roses, rings and a knife in the suspect's apartment - his. Crowley's camera crew records his arrest.
Tony comes in in the morning and opens his memo, his Bahamas expense report. It's been rejected and he's being audited for the past two years.
Frankie cuts Gibbs hair again. Cameron comes in as Gibbs leaves.
Gibbs watches the men talk and calls his dad.
