911 at its best
rsbrown-2142421 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is a prime example of what 911 does right. The characters are what make us care about the emergencies.

Bucks story right now Is incredible. Him being uncomfortable with the attention he received from everyone to then only seek out his safe space is very telling. I think think we've even seen Buck sacred like this.

I love Maddie being over protective and Eddie knowing what Buck really needs. It's a direct parallel to Maddie's depression and Buck thinking he knows Maddie better than Chim does. Eddie says this same thing to him after Chim leaves... to see it played in the reverse... the nailed this one.

Eddie and Buck finally starting to talk about hire shared traumas... look I've always been a fan of there being more between Buck and Eddie. But this just highlights that. If Eddie isn't Buck's new couch I'll eat my hat.

Flushing out more of Bobby's history was amazing to see. Happy this storyline is wrapped up but god was it heartbreaking to see what Wendel endured.

Improved thematic continuity, but lacking build up for major storylines
CeeCeeLove212 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Last week's episode was such a mess with the thematic messages the show tried to force at the same time being in complete opposition to each other so in that regard, this episode was a vast improvement! And while this episode did feel more in line with the heart of the show, having a second week in a row after a long hiatus with NO emergency calls for the firefam and then going on break for three weeks feels like poor planning, and again feels like the show doesn't remember what it's supposed to be about or what fans tune in to see.

Bobby's storyline-

I love that after quite some time, Bobby is FINALLY getting a storyline centered on him, it's been FAR too long. I DO wish he could have a personal storyline NOT about his addiction, but given that it came up last season with Eddie (though strangely NOT after he again hurt his back at work or after he got shot in s4 and was likely either on or had to refuse pain meds) I was glad it was addressed in some fashion. However, it was incredibly weird that they decided to do flashbacks all the way back to season 1 when Wendell has never once been mentioned in all that time until 6x09, five minutes before his death. This storyline SHOULD have carried far more emotional weight, but by choosing not to have any build up or mention of Wendell before his death and shoving the entire character into flashbacks in one episode, the emotional beats just don't really land. I WANTED to care about Wendell, and I wanted to care about BOBBY caring about Wendell but it was so rushed and felt so much like an afterthought that was thrown into 6x09 to give Bobby something to do that it was hard to connect with the story. Not to mention the weirdness of the timeline and certain story elements. Tamara only knew May as "Jade", but Bobby just calls her "May" talks to Tamara like she knows everything. Also, the episode even shows the flashback of Wendell calling Bobby while high IN THIS EPISODE, but five minutes later turns around and shows Wendell dying immediately! And lets not get into the message about recovery and managing addiction and making it out like EVERY place that does that kind of work is shady and just trying to keep people addicted.

I did really like the Bobby/Tamara stuff though. Bobby is SUCH a dad and will adopt anyone who looks even remotely like they could use a father figure and their moments were really sweet. I also really enjoyed seeing Bobby at a meeting and geared to take up Wendell's mantle of reaching out and being a sponsor, and not out of guilt like in s4 with the woman from the car crash. We also got some good supportive Athena/Bathena this episode which is always nice to see, however again it's weird that 6x11 was SO focused on Bobby and Buck's relationship only to entirely drop it this episode without having Bobby mentioning anything about Buck or Buck being allowed to be concerned or involved in what was going on with Bobby. By wrapping this whole thing up in this episode, it didn't really give anything time to breathe or allow the firefam to be there for their captain like he's there for them.

Buck's storyline-

While it was good to see some light-hearted fun this episode, and seeing some of the firefam with Buck, it doesn't make up for them forcing the firefam out of 6x11 to make it all about "blood family" and giving most of the emotional moment scenes to the Buckley parents instead. Plus it was SO WEIRD that out of everyone visiting Buck we got Connor and not Chim! And it wasn't even about Buck, it was to push this stupid sperm donor arc that no one wants and has been so poorly handled. No one cares about Connor or if he's getting cold feet! HOW did an arc that should have been about BUCK and his character growth turn into something that he's just in the background of, not caring at all about having a child he's not allowed to be involved with, and focused on Connor and Kameron's relationship instead?! They should have just scrapped the whole mess over the break and opened with Buck having been told it's not his after all and been done with it. What a waste of screentime! Especially when we could have gotten some good Buck/Chim content out of it.

The BIG WIN this week was the Buddie storyline with Buck being able to find peace in the place, and with the person (and on the couch), that feels like home. It was so good to get a start of a conversation about the shooting and I hope we can get more when TPTB stop jerking everyone around and finally let the Buddie storyline move forward (hopefully under the direction of a better showrunner. Is JCC available?) This scene was SUCH a good callback to s5 and Eddie telling Buck that Chim knows Maddie in a way Buck doesn't because we clearly see Maddie being so loving and trying so hard to help and Buck loving and appreciating her and what she's doing but it not being what he NEEDS, and him finding that with Eddie, because Eddie knows him in a way Maddie doesn't. The soft lighting, the soft clothes, the soft expressions, the WHOLE scene was perfect and Andrew always does such a good job when he's allowed to write for Buddie.

With all that said, Eddie being SO heavily featured in this storyline made it MORE weird that he wasn't in last week's episode! He and Buck haven't had scenes outside of work aside from 6x0, and the group phone call 6x09, so this had no lead up and while it felt good to see it was confusing and made last week and Eddie's absence make even less sense!

And again, no emergency calls for the first responders show, two weeks in a row after only 1 week with calls after such a long break and heading into yet another break. And with everything for everyone looking pretty wrapped up at the moment, we're left with the question of what could the show even do for these last 6 episodes? What are we building to? The dread of more filler like 6a has never been higher. What happened to having multiple arcs running at the same time for multiple characters? Everything is so self-contained and then immediately forgotten about. Can we please get someone in charge who understands packing and planning and anything about this show and these characters?

STILL no mention of Ravi in 12 episodes even though he's set to return in the next couple episodes, but don't worry, there's time and space to bring Lucy back doing some "bad*ss" rescue and Buck having more focus on her. Joy.

Such a great episode
cibelekzm21 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It's a really good episode, the messages of it resonates with me really well, not count it's literally full of Eddie and Buck interactions people were craving for in previous episodes. (Patience is the key). Like they finally talked about the shooting, and the couch metaphor too working just fine. Also love Buckley simblings time here.

Now, talking about the biggest point of this episode, Bobby's storyline.

I do think they could have worked a bit better in the build up of Wendel and Bobby's relationship before killing off the man. These flashbacks could easily have been in earlier episodes (like they could have cut the sperm donor bs we didn't care about to put scenes introducing Wendel), but overall, I do like it a lot, because they used the characters in that storyline really well, in special Tamara.

I legit enjoyed Tamara, it's been a while since I do watch an episode and end up wishing to see a character more times. They worked this storyline in a way I was not expecting too which makes it more interesting, and I love that Bobby is finally moving on and being motivated by this (in a positive way). Wendel's death so far had been motivating him in negative ways to seek revenge and justice, it became an obsession of 4 months, so it's great to see that it's now motivating him in a positive way, to help others just like Wendel helped him. I hope by the end of the season he becomes an sponsor. I think it would be an interesting shift of the "mentor" dynamic that we see him have with the 118 vs with civilians.

Also I have to say I actually really liked of what the writers did with Bobby storyline, I mean I had a big range of emotions here LMAO. I never been so infuriated as I was after the lady use Bobby's past to frame him, and then later it was just plain depressing to watch Bobby just listesn to a list of accusations in silence and then the detective be like "this is just too perfect to be true". Man the relieve I felt (and Bobby too)

BTW great performance from Peter, I love when writers gives him space to show his acting.

I don't have any complains of this episode. So, perfect to me.

One of my favourite episodes so far this season!
sybwbpsgt21 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I loved this episode! Bobby getting arrested and accused of arson had me on the edge of my seat! I'm glad he was able to get the answers he needed and It was great getting to see Bobby deal with the loss of his friend and sponsor in a healthy way at the end of the episode.

It was also great seeing Buck willing to actually open up and talk to his best friend about how he's feeling. Eddie being able to talk about his shooting and being able to relate to how Buck is feeling really seemed to help.

Also, it's great seeing everybody care so much about Buck, since last time he was forced to not work for a while he ended up feeling so alone and lost, I think this time he really understands that he's got people in his corner that care about him.

I think it's going to be interesting to see if Buck will go right back to work or take some time for himself, I'm excited to see where this storyline is going to go for him!

PK
juarezmaria-0270521 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Bobby centric episodes always delivered a great masterclass of acting, the way PK shows a vulnerable character but at the same time a very fierce one, where is his damn Emmy?

Love the episode wish we would have explored more of Bobby relationship with his sponsor before he died but the flashbacks were amazing, Bathena is one of the best relationships in actual television right now and I think is because of the way PK and AB portray a couple with highs and lows but that can overcome it together, as always and amazing acting job by PK, keeps proving that he's an amazing actor that in my opinion is usually being underrated for a lot of people in the fandom.

An Amazing Episode
nerdycontacts21 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was utterly amazing.

Showing Bobby's character being able to get closure for everything happening with Wendall and showing it tying up all with a nicely knotted bow by showing him sponsoring was such an amazing choice. Bobby is an amazing character who has grown so much.

Him interacting with Tamara and seeing himself, trying to help her and be there for her? He's such a caring person and it's always a nice thing to see especially even when it's characters we know next to nothing about. I do hope we see Tamara again at some point, maybe recommending people to find Bobby to help get clean or something!

Not to mention how much Athena supported Bobby, I love their relationship so much and it's so nice to see how supportive and loving Athena is of Bobby, taking a step back and letting Bobby figure things out himself but still letting him know that she is there if he needs it

And seeing other character care for Buck and knowing he didn't die and just jump back on his feet was cool as well.

Very Heartwarming Episode
aaaaaron-frannnnnnnn18 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of my favorite episodes. It puts some highlight back on Athena/Bobby whom I feel have been overlooked a little recently. I absolutely love the detective letting Bobby and Athena tell their side, and how they took down that fraudulent couple. A lot of the cast are "pretty good" actors, but Angela Basset brings it. I absolutely love Bobby taking over as the AA group moderator, and seeing himself in both that young girl and the random dude at the end. Such good story telling, with a great amount of heart and yet also gives a small amount of "cop and robber" show vibes. I love this show, and really love this episode.

This show was supposed to be about first responders
stillnotyourbusiness21 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
There's a quote out there that says that if something is working then you shouldn't change it. I guess the 9-1-1 writers should apply this.

I'm happy to see more of Bobby's addiction, but I would love it if it was about him and not about some random characters whose names we won't remember in a couple of days and that have been in just one episode.

This investigating episodes are just boring and more times than not a way to portray copaganda.

Buck's arc was weird, I guess... Just some scenes about it without really talking about his recovery or lack of it.

It's been a long time since the show lost its essence, but the last few episodes it's just as if it was a different thing.
