The Winner Takes it All
CinemaSerf10 August 2023
"Kiki" (Jessica Marchi) is a well off lassie who is married to the hunky "Hunter" (Manuel Kornisluk) whom she thinks is cheating on her. She rather mistakenly confides in her friend "Maxine" (Maxi Shield) and together they make plans to ensure that they keep her fortune out of the conspiring hands of the husband. Thing is, it's "Maxine" that hubby is playing away with and when "Kiki" is murdered, it all looks distinctly dodgy. To further complicate this little love-triangle, it transpires that "Hunter" really can't keep it in his pants - he's also been having a fling with "Randy" (Jack Stratton-Cole) who was a porn star who made love to girls in the forest whilst pretending to be a wolf! What now ensures might have been a bit more fun but for the truly awful quality of the acting and the dialogue. Maxi Shield presents us with a decent drag act, she can clearly sing and has the only thing close to charisma here. The rest of it is really rather poor with a plot development that was almost certainly drink-induced and presents us with characters that are easy enough on the eye, but about whom you really couldn't possibly care less. A student video if ever I saw one, and sorry - I can't recommend it at all and there's not even an hint of ABBA.

Laughed so hard

So, I watched this film at World Pride festival and again when we finally got our hands on the dvd from UK. Both times with a group of friends. And what a fun hilarious ride it is! The film is completely insane. It is very Australian in its humour but somehow still feels international. It is an absolute cult classic. I put this up there with my top 10 favourite films. Maxi Shield is hilarious and as someone who really appreciates drag i really can't recommend it enough. The boys and sex scenes (especially the shower scene with Maxi and hunky Manuel Kornisiuk) are so delicious (and hilarious). Is it a cinematic masterpiece? I would say it's not a film that was made for millions but it has so much heart, it really is such a fun ride. If you want some light silly laugh out loud fun then grab a wine and have a night in with this.
