Here's an interesting concept that I think most of us have never thought before (and how could we?): imagine finding a special person of whom you want to have a romantic
relationship and then finally it's the time for meeting him or her. Now, imagine that moments before the encounter you get a sudden visit from your date but it's the future
version of that person and she or he advise you to cancel the meeting in the present simply because this futuristic person knows that this relationship won't go well in time?
Crazy, huh? What would you do: cancel the date or insist on it just to see how far things can go with the possibility of experiencing heartache, disappointment or failure?
With tough questioning comes great cinematic experiences. The forementioned situations happen with a teenage girl (Ana Beatriz Braga) who meets this special boy
(Matheus Venâncio) on the internet, they set up a date but the future version of his (André Gonçalves) shows up to warn the girl about how things will end up badly for both of them.
But there's a catch since he also talks about how special things will be for a while - obviously the beginning of things are always fun and special since love is
blossoming and everything's new. How could she give up all that just because the man had envisioned the fights and arguing that will happen. But that's life and that's how
relationships go, a real test to the senses.
I was intrigued by the idea since it deals with a great part of our subconcious in imagining such scenario happening despite the impossibility of it all, but
just imagine the reaction and feelings going through your mind. It's quite insane and almost like a torture since you have to make a choice by either believing in the visions of the
future or just trust your guts and make a bet to see if you can succeed or not. It's almost like a spiritual concept developed by some cultures and spiritualities about the eternal
recurrence or reincarnation better saying when evolved souls can make the important decision of coming back to life and to the world of living already knowing all about the
pain, the hurt, the disappointment and trouble it can have and feel all over again simply because there are small moments of happiness and a sense of making a difference both on the
spiritual world and the living one where this soul decides to go another ride as a living entity who feels things and it's accepting everything that goes, good and bad, just to feel
again. Like the angels from "Wings of Desire" who trade their eternity following from afar the mortals and jump downhere to become mortals themselves and experience love, joy, sorrow, pain,
the physicality of it all since they can't do anything different than just observe.
It's not like I'm saying "Futuro-Ex" is such a deep and thoughtful movie since it goes all too quickly but it made me put things to a certain perspective, and many days after seeing it
I'm still thinking about it, it got some food for though. With this kind of material, had the makers of it took some quiet time
to develop more ideas, make it more philisophical or funny then we'd have a spectacle of a feature film. If such idea was used for a movie, then I'm more inclined to watch it. But for what we
have here I find it a very fine movie that made a nice of imagination. 8/10.
