Hilarious spoof
janstue4 February 2023
This spoof of Detective Conan is very funny and well done. At first I was worried watching this could ruin the experience of enjoying the original Detective Conan but that is not the case imo. I wouldn't recommend to watch this before having watched a decent amount of Detective Conan episodes though: It could then destroy the fun of the original watching experience, and you also wouldn't be able to get too much out of this parody series because you wouldn't get the references which make this show so hilarious. Furthermore, this show doesn't merely rely on the material of the original show but also has a nice little story line of its own, and I'm here for that. It's a spoof as well as it is original. Enjoy your night!

A beautiful parody of the original
Meldow_1 March 2023
First, let me explain my camp. The original Detective Conan is THE series of my childhood (besides with One Piece), and to this day is one of my favorites of the medium (as is readily apparent). Detective Conan is a masterpiece for me and ever since I heard about an anime adaptation of the manga "Detective Conan: The Culprit Hanazawa" coming out, I've been hyped.

The anime is a parody of Detective Conan through and through and never takes itself too seriously. This is evident right from the opening "Tsukamaete, Konya." Our protagonist Hanazawa doesn't dance in the opening by accident. The entire dance, as well as Hanazawa's final pose, is a parody of Detective Conan's eighth opening, "Koi wa Suriru, Shokku, Sasupensu." And the series is also full of such self-referential parodies. For example, the anime addresses the question of what it's like for the citizens of Beika to live in such a district with so many murders. Also, the character design of Ran Mori or Hanazawa are obvious parodies. But that's all I want to anticipate in this review.

To watch this spin-off, you should know Detective Conan, otherwise almost all the jokes won't work. But that's exactly what I like about this spin-off. It's precisely because this series is so self-referential that the spin-off parodies Detective Conan so well. And that's all the series wants. That's why I give it a complete recommendation for every fan of Detective Conan.

Thanks for reading.

A lovely spoof of the original

The anime never takes itself too seriously and is a constant satire of Detective Conan. This is clear from the first line of "Tsukamaete, Konya." It is no coincidence that Hanazawa, our main character, dances in the opening. Hanazawa's last position and the entire dance are a parody of Detective Conan's eighth opening, "Koi wa Suriru, Shokku, Sasupensu." And there are a ton of these self-referential parodies throughout the series. For instance, the anime tackles the subject of what it's like to be a resident of Beika in a neighborhood where there are so many homicides. Furthermore, it is evident that Hanazawa and Ran Mori's character designs are parodies. However, that's all I hope this review will bring.

Nice gem

I loved the short episode forms of the show and I was invested in the story of Hanzawa. It was a nice look into the character's journey (all of the trials and tribulations that he goes through) which even made me curious about finding out why he wanted to kill. Even though we get big clues as to who his intended victim is and most likely won't be able to kill. Hoping that the reason and it's reveal will be equally hilarious as the show was. Also, I need to mention that the opening song was very good to both watch and listen and Ending song was also great to listen. Happy that I got back onto the anime boat with this show. Great watch if you're familiar with Detective Conan and it's tropes. Can't wait for the next season.
