Welcome to China-An innovative short film about French actor Gad Elmaleh's silly attempts to win a larger fan base in China !!
FilmCriticLalitRao15 September 2013
It is not only in the field of economy but also in the field of culture that the growth and importance of China as a country and the commercial prospects it presents have been keenly felt. Keeping this aspect into mind, director Olivier Ayache-Vidal has done a fantastic job of making an innovative short film about French actor Gad Elmaleh's entry into Chinese show business scene. On first view, it might appear as a very easy artistic promise to fulfill but there are numerous surprises in store for all concerned parties. On the one hand, Gad Elmaleh has other career related priorities including a highly important meeting with American cinema's best director Martin Scorcese, on the other hand there is a Karaoke singing session in Shanghai for which he has already been paid an attractive sum of 500,000 dollars. The unique thing about 'Welcome to China' is that it discusses everything related to cinema especially the manner in which film actors behave in their private lives. The film maintains its seriousness to the art and business of cinema as it depicts what goes into stars' mind when it comes to honor or dishonor a contract, what are other actors doing and what are important career choices to be made ? It is precisely on an analysis of these elements that 'Welcome to China' ends with the message that it is not possible to fool Chinese people.
