It's sad what happened to the Dexter series
topias-mattinen16 September 2013
Well as person who has watched the series from the beginning and has started to read the books as well, I've just got to say that season 8 has made me hate the whole TV series in general. I mean the potential of this show was just unlimited but season 8 has brought it all down. No goddamn logic anymore - in anything that's happened!

The top 10 worst rated episodes of Dexter contain 5 episodes from season 8. And that's not including the 11th one. So thank you, creative minds of Dexter's eight season, for a really swell job. Sorry about the tone, I'm just thinking about what happened to one of my favorite series.

Good Episode
claudio_carvalho9 August 2014
Dexter cleans the evidences from Dr. Vogel's house and decides to kill Saxon before traveling to Argentina. He also tells Angel that he wants to quit the Miami Metro. Saxon challenges Dexter posing of a buyer of his apartment and proposes a truce to Dexter with each one letting the other go. Dexter finds Saxon's hideout and plots a scheme to catch the serial- killer. When he decides to deliver Saxon to the Miami Metro, his decision will end with tragic consequences.

"Monkey in a Box" is a good episode of this weak season. Dexter seems to get rid of his dark passenger and it seems that Hannah will change his urge for death, in a preparation for a happy ending. Or not? My vote is eight.

OK.. That wasn't bad..

Warning: Spoilers
The episode before the series finale of Dexter, 'Monkey in a Box' was in comparison, not as bad an episode as the others of this season.

The episode starts and carries on the same thread of Dexter saying goodbye to his friends, Deb and his colleagues of Miami Metro. Not much happens Story-wise but however, the plot turns out to show that Dexter gets more and more tended towards becoming normal, which was kind of nice to me. Many will not like this twist but hey, what the hell, we can't always satisfy everyone. By the end, the tension mounts enough for us to wait for the finale and by the next week, we will be done with Dexter.

Specially in this episode, the ways Dexter follows and uses to solve problems like opening computers are so effing dumb. There was very little of the original sharp writing left by the time this Series reached season 8 and that too, its last episodes, making Dexter just another average American Sitcom, disappointingly.

The ending better be very powerful and justify the amount of dumbness we put up with so far in season 8. But anyway, this episode has indeed shown some signs of a potentially satisfying and an unpredictable ending. So, I should say, there is still some hope left for Dexter.

You Don't Need Me, Dexter, Anymore

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 10 - Goodbye Miami was a bit disappointment having no twists or any suggestions how the show will end. It did not bring much new, except Vogel's death, which was pretty predictable for me. Monkey in a Box starts the same way actually, as a look at quiet life of Dexter, however in the end things start to change.

Dexter and Hannah are making final arrangements to leave the town, but there are a lot complicating issues including Deputy Marshall, Vogel's death and Morgan's attempt to kill Oliver Saxon. After Hannah visited the hospital the FBI has renewed search for her and they are getting closer and closer.

Saxon tries to negotiate with Dex to stay apart and leave everything as it was. But being threatened does not work much for Serial Killer, so he makes some plans up to deal with a guy who killed Evelyn. However Morgan is trapped, he is not willing to kill Oliver by himself and for this reason he sets him up so that Miami Metro could trace him. This is the first time he did what Debra wanted him to do and I am pretty sure they both are going to regret this.

This was better episode for making everything very complicated and I hope that they are able to sort this out in just one episode. Without giving a spoiler, lots of things happen in final ten minutes that could come up to any kind of end.

I don't enjoy much that the finale is so vague, but I have big hopes for the people who did amazing 4th, 6th and 7th seasons. I don't think they will mess it up.

Monkey in a Box somehow tries to tell that Dexter is changed and the little human part of him has grown bigger and stronger. As a fan of greatest serial killer this is not what I expected and wanted, however things happening in the end somehow gives a hope for mass murderer to come back.

Wherever the end goes, I hope it is not happy, because the last thing I want to see is Dexter and Hannah happily walking out of the all mess they've been in for years.

Goof and questions?
AlbertsDaughter19 September 2013
Warning: Spoilers
If Dexter was trying to erase his presence in Vogel's house, why did he put on his gloves *after* he left his fingerprints all over the place - e.g. light switch, file cabinet, laptop, etc. (If he wiped them later, it wasn't shown and why not just put on the gloves before?)

When Saxon is freed from his restraints, where did he get a gun? Maybe I just missed something there.

Did Marshall Cooper not get the memo about Saxon's incriminating video? Why did he free him?

This episode was not up to their usual standards, IMO. Dexter was really out of character, and I didn't buy the reason for it.

Dexter deserves to end on a good note..
kaizad_kaiz-258-41893716 September 2013
Why do all the hate mongers want dexter to burn in hell or not get away with what he has done? on the other note, what do you mean by justice? this is exactly why dexter was made in the first place, to question our own conscience and choose between what we think is right and wrong! i can agree to a certain level of certainty that the ending will be unexpected for most of the people and it really does not matter whether he gets away and leads a happy life or dies or get caught by the police. What matters is that dexter has changed after such a long period of struggle and has finally started to take such decisions in life that is better for him as a human being in the long run emotion-wise and not as a psychotic rage-full killer...

If in the end, he can get away with all of it then so be it! politicians and gangsters do bad things and get away with it all the time, then why can't a serial killer who has a high morale and knows when or how to punish the culprits or considers himself as the guardian of city Miami? Why can't you see justice being served to a just person? Dexter deserves to be happy, and live a loving life with his son and hannah!! You are perfect dexter, just the way you are

Sigh..
dannylee-7808217 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
1. Deb is back 2. Dex is trying to go 3. Marshall dies

Quinn getting back together with Deb also is unnecessary and probably more of a fan service, albeit very poorly done. No sense of excitement for rekindled love. Their relationship was never gonna work out.

I'm usually not a fan of witch hunt for plot holes and I am generous about stretches for the sake of the plot, but Hannah giving her alias and Deb's address is just ridiculous. Why? Why would any fugitive to do that?

The last few episodes seem to have no tension - only forced situations to attempt to create tension, but they are so ridiculous that it doesn't hit home.

That scene where Debra gets shot is so hilarious. Imagine being a Marshall and not knowing about a local fugitive. I can't take this season seriously anymore.

Finally a good episode, looking forward to a suspenseful finale
brettcoultas16 September 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Finally dexter season 8 is starting to heat up, and it taken 11 episodes.

Hannah is in serious trouble with trying to escape to Argentina as Elway and the Marshall know deb and dexter are hiding her.

Oliver threatens dexter, which dexter is not happy about and in an attempt to kill oliver sends the link of his kills and gets the police involved. Which will get oliver to come to him.

I will no spoil the last 10 minutes of the episode, but it helps set up a finale with a lot of problems to conclude. I am definitely looking forward to this. I have a feeling that it will not end well for dexter.

S8.E11 - Dumb Decisions [7/10]
panagiotis19931 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S8. E11) My Reaction / Review for Dexter Season 8 Episode 11 ''Monkey in a Box'': Episode 10 was good and I gave it a rating of 9/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. I hope that Saxon will be soon on Dexter's table. Im glad to see that Deb works for the police again, she is good at this job. This marshal guy is so annoying. He is everywhere. I have a feeling that Dex, Hannah and Harrison wont go to Argentina. Masuka and his daughter are so cute. So Saxon tried to convince Dexter to leave him alone, to not kill him or he will kill Hannah, Harrison or Deb. Im sure Dexter will try to kill him anyway. Finally Saxon on Dex's table. Dex wont kill Saxon? What the hell? Leaving Saxon alive is so dumb, he knows about Dexter's secrets, Dex should kill him. And Saxon escaped, well done Dexter. Overall a decent episode but certain things didn't make sense. My rating is 7/10.

Dexter's Stuck In A Idiot Box That's For Sure
mrxelement15 September 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Quite frankly I hoped this episode was going to bring on a full edge of suspense, thriller, and Dexter's darkness since this is final 11th episode. Nope there is nothing like that at all. Its come to a full conclusion that Dexter is very much a plain dumb dimwit as of now since this episode just proves at its finest. Nothing feels like the end anymore, it feels were still in the middle of having no endpoint to this boring Oliver Saxon story-line still on a goose chase that's completely pointless. Each episode keeps getting worse and worse each week its very painful watching Dexter doing nothing but stare into space. To save you from your trouble, watch the last 3mins.

*SPOILERS* Speaking of Saxon... DEXTER WHAT IN THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING!!!!! WHY IN THE HELL YOU DIDN'T KILL HIM!!! THANKS WRITERS!!! FOR BRINGING UP THE REASON HE DOESN'T WANT TO KILL IS BECAUSE OF HANNAH!!!! AND FOR THAT DEB GET'S SHOT FOR DEXTER BEING A IDIOT FOR NOT THINKING CLEARLY ENOUGH! HOPEFULLY NEXT WEEK DEXTER DOES GET KILL.

Contrived awful episode
mrwb7716 March 2022
The whole of season 8 is a mess and this episode is the worst so far.

The way the characters behave isn't consistent with the prior 7 seasons at all.

The main plot narratives in season 8 don't work and it starts to unravel here.

another weakest silliest episode

Weak and stupid.

really, after during all 8 seasons Dexter is being so calculated and well planned every step he takes, now it's a total opposite - silly, weak ''p*ssy'' guy
