Being Consumed
claudio_carvalho2 August 2014
Debra is downhill in her life, drinking too much. She is arrested for D.U.I. and calls Quinn in the middle of the night to release her without being charged. Meanwhile Dexter and Dr. Vogel try to find who might be threatening her and Dexter investigates her former patient Ron Galuzzo. The serial-killer sends two pieces of Sussman's brain, one for Dr. Vogel and the other for him. Dr. Vogel is intrigued with Dexter, who is consumed for loving Debra, and offers to help her, but Dexter tells that he can fix his problem since he is Debra's problem. He has dinner with his sister but Debra feels consumed by guilty for killing LaGuerta and she goes to the Miami Metro to confess her murder. However Quinn summons Dexter and he takes Debra home with Dr. Vogel that will treat her. Dexter discovers that Galuzzo is not the killer that is threatening Dr. Vogel but he has a dark secret.

"What's Eating Dexter Morgan?" is a good episode where either Dexter or Debra is consumed by different reasons. Dexter is consumed by his love for Debra and he believes that he consumes those who love him. Debra is consumed by the guilty for killing LaGuerta. Fortunately for them Quinn interprets Debra's confession as a guilty situation. My vote is eight.

Emotions and Characters
konstzir15 July 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Strong episode! On the emotional side. There is a 90-sec period a little after the middle, in the restaurant, where Dex is showing Deb that video that it really gets deep. That, on the contrary to the whole Deb's behavior and struggle all along the episode brings out different depths of her character.

Quinn on the other side was not the Quinn we used to see. Although as a character he has shown glimpses of rational and reasonable thinking during times of emotional burden, even though his actions did not back that up, this time he showed integrity and change. However, he was still misunderstood. To be honest I never liked Quinn, but the last two seasons I feel like he deserves a break from always being mistaken, or simply put, 'he's a good guy'.

I really liked Dexter's assertiveness and confidence on drugging Deb when she was about to tear it all down. I was thinking while watching it 'If I were him, I'd sedate her... Oh there you go'. Walking out of her house he had one of those amazing monologues/thoughts-to- himself/realizations saying 'I am perfect...', and then shortly after that he had that kill, which has been a while to see one. After all, he kills people. It was what the viewers want to see, it wasn't rushed and it came naturally.

On the plot side, I believe the episode sort of covered a hole, or, better, a hint created in episode 2. That there is a possibility for Dr. Vogel to be doing all the gruesome murders for some kind of study over Dexter. Although the very *SPOILERY* 'see what happens next' shots didn't quite rule that second part out... Or maybe it's just a teaser. They recited LaGuerta's death details making sure that everything went as Dexter planned it at the season finale last year.

All in all, it was a good episode without a whole lot to be going on. It created a tension which eventually will need to be released later on.

Hope my review will tempt people to see the episode. Have a good one :-)

I am perfect.

A good comeback from a slightly dull episode last week. The plot has now settled down a bit and the tussle between Dexter's sinister side and the love for his sister has never been more pronounced as in the scene where he takes her from the station. As Vogel suggests, we see glimpses of Dexter's self preservation and survival instincts kicking in which should make him take a decision sooner rather than later.. The Dr.Hannibal type killer was an opportunity wasted, but it finally gives us our first kill this season. And as the one pushing Dexter to kill, does Vogel qualify as a killer herself? How will Vogel and Deb react to the other's secrets and problems?

As interesting as it seems to be going, we need a more sinister presence than just Vogel, otherwise Dexter is just too powerful and it would be sad to say goodbye to him meekly. Step it up Shotime!

Deb goes bad!
nikashvili16 July 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I know it seems weird to rate all three episodes with 10. But I can't do it in other way, the show is definitely getting better and better. Each series bring us closer to a very logic, not happily ever after ending.

Dex and Dr. Vogel continue chasing the mysterious killer from Vogel's past, who know sends "gifts" to both of them.

But there is something more important happening in What's Eating Dexter Morgan? It continues to explore each character in different ways. Quinn who always looked like lady-lover hunk, seems to be rational and trustful friend to Debra. He actually saves the whole plot. To spoil furthermore, he will be involved in Debra-Dexter-Vogel secret relationship for the whole season and he can be future La Guerta.

Debra is going bad. She is alcohol addicted, suffering from what she has done and decides to confess. It's a great dramatic episode for her because she fights against herself - remembering what she used to be before killing Maria and what she has become. That's why Deb decides to bring everything to the end, despite a great love to her brother.

I am almost sure that Jennifer Carpenter will have brilliant award season next year. She is a bright candidate for drama supporting actress race, having whole package to be a winner: alcoholic, suffering ex-cop, emotionally unstable and the one fighting against her own moral standards. Critics gonna love it.

Dexter is trapped. He swore never to hurt sister. The code clearly forbids to kill innocent and this has always been a MUST rule for him. But now Vogel assures him that rule of Never Be Caught is number one rule. Dex is confused. He has to choose sister or his own safety which directly affects son Harrison. This dilemma makes character very interesting because he has never faced such problems before, since killing is not way out.

Evelyn gains more control on Dexter since she is the only person who can "read" him. Dexter starts realizing that she is the only person capable of helping him and keeping the secret. The same time, Vogel convinces him that Dex is perfect as serial killer and he must not doubt in his powers. This is what Morgan need at this point of his life - self- confidence to continue killing serial killers.

What's Eating Dexter Morgan? gives a hope to very tense future 9 episodes. For this reason I consider it to be the better then previous one.

Amazing Dexter Episode
Simply amazing. Dexter has been and will always be one of my favourite characters for his simplicity and dedication.

The episode brought a few lights on what could happen but there is still so much incertainty that is going to climax and explode.

The emotion that is going on with Dex and Deb is getting strong. Dr. Vogel is a good addition to the crew, but I'm still uncertain on what she is here to do. She is seeking Dexter's help but must have more plans for him other to those that we already know. Quin has maned up and is starting to get the attention he needs as a "good guy"

The actors are to be congratulated as they are growing day by day. Jennifer is showing her dedication to the role and is just fantastic. Michael C. Hall never disappoints and even after everything he has gone through he never ceases to surprise me.

To finish off I would just like to congratulate the producers, writers, the whole crew for a great series.

All in all 9*/10*

Analysis of Dexter Morgan
S_Unit71316 July 2013
This season is turning out to be all about what Dexter Morgan is deep down inside. Vogal seems to be the analyst of Dexter Morgan. There are few things that could be the most interesting point of this season.

1.Debra is going out of her mind, which makes the Dexter vulnerable to her.

2. Vogal motives are still an hidden agenda, she definitely has some other role apart from seeking help from Dexter.

I guess we have much more interesting stuff to look forward to,much more secrets are gonna unfold and past gonna reveal.

Vogel: Dexter, you've admitted to being the cause for her pain. How can you expect to be the solution?
bombersflyup20 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
What's Eating Dexter Morgan? Is about Deb spiraling out of control due to guilt and Dexter's hunt for the brain surgeon.

Season eight makes its presence felt here, as Deb goes into the station to confess to the murder of LaGuerta. Quinn though cuts her off and Dexter injects her and saves her from herself. The guilt's just too strong, because she's such a good person. Once again displaying the quality character of Debra. Vogel and the brain surgeon stuff, is so so at this point. It's all about Deb and the lives she affects.

S8.E3 - I Consume Everyone i Love [9/10]
panagiotis199328 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S8. E3) My Reaction / Review for Dexter Season 8 Episode 3 ''What's Eating Dexter Morgan?'': Episode 2 was good and I gave it a rating of 9/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Deb is still a mess, nothing new here. So now the killer knows about Dex too? That's not good. Dr. Vogel seems to trust Dex, that he is able to find this killer. Is that gym guy really the serial killer? Galuzzo cooks people? He is a cannibal? Damn, I didn't see that coming. Wow, Deb confessed that she killed Laguerta, it makes sense though because she was feeling guilty. This confession could destroy everything, Dex did the right thing, I hope Dr. Vogel can help. Im glad Dex killed the cannibal. My rating is 9/10.

I am perfect

Warning: Spoilers
1. Deb gets a DUI 2. Deb and Dex get dinner 3. Deb looks like she passed out

Carpenters performance is really popping off. Her acting out is not overdone, but believable enough to have hope for this season. Dr. Vogel and Dexter are trying to pick up the pieces of her shambles and it's quite heartbreaking to see.

I don't think that Vogel is a good influence on Dexter because she as an expert is confirming that Dexter is a perfect psychopath, incapable of love or lots of other human emotions. She may be right, but we've seen a lot of sides of Dexter that wasn't completely selfish or psychopathic, which Vogel has yet to observe.

His last statement "I consume everyone I love" is the truth that the audience has known for a while. Whether Dexter admits it or not, the few people that he's loved or grown close to, are all hurt or dead in some ways, perhaps except Harrison. In this final season, this is a different Dexter that we see, completely loaded in guilt, and quite frankly, just angry at himself. So far, the episodes are decent and I think they are capturing well what the writers intended to communicate.
